Hello fellow upcoming artists, tired of struggling with creating your Concept Art career ready portfolio or have you received a few rejection ps and are looking to tune your work to employment standards? We feel your pain so we created this small list of 7 tips that will no doubt help maximize the effectiveness of your portfolio and greatly increase your chances of being hired to your dream positions as our Mentors have! We’re also choosing 10 artists from the comments to do a Portfolio Review with our Lead Mentor and Concept Artist, Enoch driscoll to review your body of work while getting 1:1 time to ask any questions! We will contact those chosen for their day/time of availability During the course of the coming week we will be creating articles that expand on each of these topics for the Concept Art community’s as well 💎Scouting= Look at fellow existing Concept Artists that either previously or currently do work at the Studio you are applying to! This will assist you in knowing how to benchmark your work in knowing whether your skill level is up to par and or if your style matches 💎Breakdowns= When applying for Concept Art roles be sure to always include breakdowns in your projects. There are many portfolios that only include illustrations, and while that is a nice as a few pieces to show your range- studios like to see the breakdowns and process so it can properly reflect the 2D to 3D pipeline 💎Contact= You can of course apply the conventional method of sending your portfolio through the application process but the best and most reliable method is in person interaction at events, expos, conventions and friends as well! 💎Organization= This is paramount, want to have the best artworks first in your portfolio so to hook the studio directors in to your work. You also want to have some solid pieces at the rear so you can leave the directors with a positive parting 💎Composition= Your portfolio is a composition of itself and you should treat it as such, having a similar style throughout is a good baseline for maintaining a solid consistent portfolio 💎Functionality= Make sure to have your portfolio functional for both desktop and mobile, we wouldn’t want this small oversight to hamper your work. 💎Content= Be sure to tell a story with your projects, fanart and previous IP’s are doable in a small amount, but primarily they’d like you to show your creativity with your own created ides. #conceptart #2dart #illustration #conceptartist #concept #art #unrealengine #unrealengine5 #ue5 #ue4 #athenaproductions #conceptartstudio #studio #outsource #cinematic #artwork #commercial #illustration #keyart #characterconceptart #conceptartist #film #filmconceptart #luxark #luxarkmentorship

The Concept Artist who gets the job is not one with the best technique, but the one who understand what the studio needs the most. Think about this : Your portfolio might be full of flashy pictures or "keyframes". Cool. But if these don't solve any Production Problem, studios don't care. What do I mean by that ? - Do you understand the codes, art direction and process of the studio you are aiming at ? - Can you provide the art director / client with drastically different iterations ? - Can you design things that are human scale and functional rather than only gigantic and abstract? - Can you provide the 3D artists with all the information they need to turn your designs into 3D assets without having to guess anything? - Do you master the fundamentals of drawing and design rather than just relying on Kitbashing ? You can't prove any of these with flashy pictures. Remember : The best Concept Art Portfolio doesn't just look good, it allows the 3D team to do their job as fast and easy as possible. Studios aren't looking for flashy renderings or viral fan art. They are looking for problem-solvers who can make the life of everyone after them in the pipeline ( = the 3D artists, riggers, animators, VFX...etc) easier. This isn't only about drawing skills, but also, and mainly, about knowing how the production pipeline works. Why is it so important? - It proves you are ready for production and that they won't spend months training you before you become autonomous ( = profitable) - It proves you are serious about joining that studio in particular (no worries, there are more doing similar stuff), rather than having a portfolio scattered all over the place that acts more like a Master of None rather than a Jack of All Trades one. - It makes you stand out positively from an ocean of clones of clones of clones of clones of trendy artists applying to them. Sounds overwhelming ? It can be, but that's why I made a 40-minutes video showing you every single step you need to do to craft a banger portfolio that match companies requirements and gets you hired. It's 100% free, no email required, you can watch it there : https://lnkd.in/dhP9F8-M

Autumn arrival 🤝 summer nostalgia. Virtual beach scene created following James Tralie's Domestika course on #Blender 🌴 10/10 would recommend. + threw in a VO from me because why not - and it definitely helps with remembering the steps as I’m still learning 3D. One big takeaway so far: DOCUMENT and assess as you go. Screenshots, take notes in a Google doc (handwriting notes is good too but with G Docs you can quickly search things back), write down what could have gone better, apply it next time. Also share your work round for feedback. (Only parts not covered here is lighting and background; I might explore these in another video…) It's been really interesting diving deeper into the possibilities of CG and virtual world building, getting to grips with the tech. Looking forward to sharing more explorations 💪 #blender #3d #beach #dreamy #tutorial #3dart #blender3dart #domestikacourse #rendering #textures #artist #digital #digitalart

Keeping people motivate is tricky In particular on long projects. Below 3 strategies I ve been using; At the moment I have a layout team actively working on Birds & Shells short film till the end of October. In total they will be working on the short for 9 full months, of course there will be up and downs, but in order to keep them constantly motivated I ve been using these 3 direction strategies: 01: Freedom Illusion: I know sounds weird, but as we feel we live freely, we, instead, silently obey to an infinite number of silent rules which avoid society to sink into caos. Same thing can apply to the direction of this phase, artists are free to interpret and implement things accordingly to some basic rules who keep the short world together. 02: Diversify the work flow: This instead is pretty straightforward; Repetition can be extremely boring and definitely kills creativity. Each layout artist rotates among sequences, always, more or less, focusing on the same objectives but in different contexts. This I feel helps me keeping the production consistent and at the same time entertaining. 03: Collaborative environment: Generally having feedbacks roundtables with all the team, where everyone is pushed to implement both conceptually and technically what others did. Generally I ve seen that this helps first of all to increase the overall quality of the production plus makes everyone more involved and interested both on the entire project and in particular on what everyone is doing. At the end the idea is to create a place that pushes growth both for the singular artist and the entire project and even though if we still have 4 months to go, seems to work fine! :) ------------------- Below just a tiny preview of one of Birds & Shells layouts #creativedirector #artdirector #creativity #animation #motiongraphic

🚀 To increase your chances of getting a job as a Material Artist you need to learn how to stand out as there are many people behind the same job you look for. 🔥 These are 4 ways you can make your art interesting to outperform your competence: 🥇 Create Impact With Your Project: Dont go on simple materials, like a smooth Gold surface. Choose a material that will show a challenge and that people can really see it by how it looks. 🥈 Tell an Original Story: We are not only artists but visual communicators. We have seen thousands of Brick Wall, if you are going for a Material like that, add more value to it by including elements that tell a new story. 🥉 Execute Your Art by Being Precise: Making a Great Material is not only about the concept. How we make it tells a lot of how we work, make sure everything you have created for this project is as best as it can be. 🎖️ Presentation is Half of The Work: If you have worked 2 months in open material, then why would you drop it by hand and do a terrible presentation? Push your boundaries, most people won't look at your graph they will look at your renders. 👉 If you are ready to create a material that can stand out from the rest then we can help you achieve it faster! Join Future Material Artists Discord Server and get help from professionals who have already conquered your mountain. 💥 Click on this link to join: https://lnkd.in/d9bKMM-f #3d #vfx #texturing #TextureArtist #3dtexturing #digitalartist #substance3ddesigner #3dartist #gameartist #gameart #adobe

In my work with clients it’s important for me to evoke a feeling, whether it’s stirring excitement in a big screen event opener, or eliciting empathy in a human-interest story for social media. I will obsess like a fiend over trimming frames from footage to cut at just the right moment, to either keep or cut out the blink of an eye, for example, which could have an effect on how a person is portrayed. I’ll tweak keyframe timing and speed curves to make graphics animate at just the right pace. As an editor and motion designer it’s important to seek inspiration not just from other video work but also other art forms, and with that in mind I visited the work of NONOTAK at the immersive ECLIPSE exhibition at Lumen Studios, London. The motion, rhythm and pacing on display here were exceptional. Patterns of light and geometric shapes are presented with refreshing simplicity, devoid of colour so the form takes precedence; it’s the motion that makes it all feel strangely alive. At times slow and contemplative, other times super-fast and dizzying. The sound design and visuals work in synchronicity, reminiscent of the work of director Chris Cunningham. I create audio-visual elements for events, some of which you can see here – https://lnkd.in/eKHK4k-a – but when the audio-visual element *is* the event, it can be truly breathtaking. Studios DO NOT GIVE A CRAP about your rendering skills when you are applying as a concept artist. Today, technique and fancy rendering is so accessible that it is a GIVEN, not even an argument in your favor. And guess what, they can assess your technique in just 1 or 2 pieces of your portfolio... This is how you see hundreds of concept artists online with photorealistic pictures in their portfolios, but who can't even access a single Interview because their portfolio is void of any valuable content for studios. Then…what to prove besides technique? 3 things : 1/ If you were to send your work to the 3D team, do they have all the information they need to model your designs without wanting to smash their keyboard? 👉 So you save time and money the the studio 2/ Can you design things, solve problems and Iterate? 👉So you can give the choice to the Art Director rather than imposing only one idea 3/ Do you understand what this studio needs specifically 👉 So they don't have to spend 6 months to train you before you can fit their mold 95% of aspiring concept artists' portfolios don't even think about the first question when they start a picture. If you just send a set of polished pictures and """keyframes""", how can the 3D team possibly model what you show them? And also how can the art director choose which idea is the best before you polish it? ... Next time you see someone spitting outrage on Linkedin about not finding a job, just go check their work and ask yourself these 3 questions. I can guarantee you they won't pass even the first one... Notice I haven’t mentioned technique yet? That’s because while technique is important, reviewers can assess it with just one or two polished images. What really matters is whether you meet these three requirements. And to make sure you understand how to match these requirements, I made a full step by step video taking you by the hand to craft a banger portfolio that ticks all the boxes companies have when hiring someone. Go watch this, it's 100% free, no email required https://lnkd.in/dhP9F8-M

Do you know what the cross marks on green screen objects are for? Let me tell you a story. I had no idea what those little marks were for, but it turns out they’re a crucial part of almost every movie and commercial you’ve ever seen. I learned this while working with a VFX team on a project, and the importance of those cross marks blew my mind. They’re not just random symbols; they play a key role in making special effects look realistic and seamless. Some benefits: 1. Precise Motion Tracking: The cross marks act as reference points for the VFX team, allowing them to track the exact position and movement of objects on screen. These markers ensure that the effects align perfectly with the real footage, which is essential when you're adding things like CGI characters or explosions. 2. Perfect CGI Placement: When a flying car zooms past in a movie, it looks flawless thanks to these marks. They guide the placement of CGI elements so that everything fits into the scene naturally. 3. Seamless Integration: By using these visual markers, editors can blend CGI with live action footage in a way that makes the entire scene feel cohesive. Without them, things would look off, like the effects didn’t quite belong in the scene. I started noticing these crosses in every behind the scenes video, and it made me appreciate the small, invisible details that make huge visual effects possible. Yes, the process of marking and tracking can seem tedious. But just like in business, it's the tiny, often overlooked details that lead to the most remarkable outcomes. So, next time you’re watching a blockbuster movie with amazing CGI, remember: ↳ Precision is everything: These tiny crosses help create the jaw dropping moments we all love in movies. Without them, the final result just wouldn’t have the same impact. ↳ Small details, big results: Just like in our professional lives, small actions behind the scenes lead to the big successes that everyone notices. ↳ Collaboration is key: It takes a whole team working together to pull off something great, and those little marks are a vital part of that teamwork. In life and in work, it’s the little things that often make the biggest difference. Have you noticed these green screen marks before? Let me know! #motiongraphics #videoediting #contentcreation #contentstrategy #visualdesign #brandidentity
