And in a moment, all was good in the world... For those not from Central Iowa, these next three days are the Tulip Time Festival in Pella, IA, my hometown. This town of 11,000 blooms with over 200,000 tulips, over 200,000 people (if good weather), parades, and my favorite.... local food stands! One of the unique things about Tulip Time is the food stands are run by local non-profits, churches, college groups, and civic groups. The festival does not allow outside food vendors, except in one city park. This is intentional to allow the money to stay local as much as possible. This happens to be one of my favorite sandwiches called the Triple Threat. I don't know the calorie count and I don't want to know the calorie count! As each of us reflect on our leadership, we all have choices to make that influence outcomes. The decision about food stands easily steers over $500,000 to local non-profit, if they are willing to put in the work and can provide quality food. The ripple effect of this decision is vast... and it probably started at a volunteer committee level! Be intentional about your leadership and pay attention to the ripples it can cause.
