Cue the lights…we successfully demonstrated Distributed Spectrum Collaboration and Operations (DiSCO) during the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command’s Valiant Shield 2024! 🪩 This new electromagnetic spectrum operations architecture shared radio frequency signal data between multiple locations, allowing operators to share real-time information. Nokia has successfully completed a proof of concept (PoC) of Quantum-Safe Networks (QSN) in a complex optical network ring topology across three locations in Greece with HellasQCI, the Greek National Quantum Communication Infrastructure Consortium. Nokia successfully demonstrated hybrid key generation using both classic and quantum physics to generate and distribute Quantum-Safe keys for encrypted optical services. The goal of the PoC was to run use cases with the HellasQCI consortium members from government, research and education, defense, law enforcement and private sector critical infrastructure owners to ensure Quantum-Safe connectivity infrastructure. The tool in question - the Quantum-Safe Key orchestrator, which can increase ‘secured connectivity resiliency’ automatically by reverting to classic physics-based keys in case of issues on the QKD layer.

Yesterday I presented at the “Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications” workshop on usage of satellite technologies in mobile communications, hosted in BNetzA in Mainz. It was great to experience the strong support 3GPP-based satellite communication has from “legacy” satellite operators using mobile satellite service spectrum, and the “newcomers” using terrestrial spectrum from space. The choice of spectrum has a major impact on the potential regulatory issues one may face in a European deployment, and I learned a lot from the workshop presentations on this topic. Based on the interest from the workshop participants, it is clear to me that 3GPP has made an excellent specification for non-terrestrial network communication and now it is up to the operators and regulators to facilitate the use of it in Europe.

The US National Spectrum Strategy has identified, among other spectrum ranges, 3.1-3.45 GHz as a potential resource for deploying next generation wireless technologies. The Department of Defense and the National Spectrum Consortium relaunched the Partnering to Advance Trusted and Holistic Spectrum Solutions (PATHSS) workgroup last month. https://lnkd.in/ewh7rPvk Their first meeting was held on Wednesday, May 22 bringing together representatives from the government, academia and industry to explore how to share the spectrum between federal and commercial users. This is an extremely ambitious project requiring multiple breakthrough innovations. The challenges were highlighted in the (partially redacted) report published last year. The very best minds from all stakeholders need to work together in order to make the most efficient use of this extremely valuable part of the spectrum.

Kratos Defense and Security Solutions demonstrates interoperability success using the DIFI standard for satellite ground technology Kratos Defense & Security Solutions announced that it demonstrated 100% interoperability success at the first ever DIFI Plugfest where satellite solutions providers converged to test the interoperability of their Digital IF products. Founded under the auspices of the IEEE, the Digital IF Interoperability (DIFI) Consortium is an independent, international group of companies, organizations, and government agencies that have an interest in the interoperability of satellite ground system equipment. As a mobile engineer and an end user by the end of the month, in my #Verizon monthly bill so far I have: - #FCC fees - #NTIA fees - #Spectrum charges - Auction charges - Verizon happy hour bill .... .( 35 itemized charges every month!) I’m happy for #DOD and #CTIA’s achievement in 4 years to announce DSS is different technology than #CBRS or after 6 years, since 5G rolled out in 2018. I appreciate the effort, as long as I don’t get any extra #DSS charges and fees in my Verizon #EndUser bill from now on. We hope Consumer Federation of America keep an eye on our Verizon's tab. Too bad there is no more #Sprint now to care for the #MobileConsumers 😉 and keep checking #ATT not adding a new #DSS logo by selling users the 4G CBRS. Harold Feld, maybe Federal Communications Commission needs to follow Trader Joe’s footsteps in order to make it an “Affordable Connectivity Program” ACP ** Keeping it simple: Producer>>Trader Joe’s>> You. No MiddleMan! ** Instead of more fund for #ACP programs, FCC would be better off picking the big tab from the carriers to make the end user’s monthly bill more affordable and less itemized. The future of #DigitalEquityAct is not the wired internet, it’s wireless! 🛜 Wireless is not a luxury good, 5G is not a fashionate logo. Wireless is the Oxygen, 5G is the food. The consumers’ wireless bill should be smaller than their water bill.
