Working on community adaptation to increase resilience in the face of disasters

In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, our hearts go out to all the communities affected and our thoughts are with everyone who has experienced loss.   We are inspired by the resilience and unity shown during these difficult times. The Associated Press reports that the “unsurvivable” Category 3 storm is expected to make landfall tonight in the Florida Panhandle, then progress north through Alabama and Georgia (including Atlanta) toward Tennessee and Kentucky. President Joe Biden has approved emergency declarations for Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama, where FEMA rapid response teams have already been deployed. At least 100,000 homes and businesses in Florida have already lost power, with many more expected to follow.
