Two years ago, CWS CROP Hunger Walk Volunteer, Celine Woznica transformed a closed school in Chicago into a sanctuary for migrants. The Migrant Ministry became a place of hope, offering ESL classes, meals, clothing and health services to Chicago's newest neighbors. In gratitude for the support they received, the Venezuelans who were supported by Celine and her ministry joined Celine in the Chicago CROP Hunger Walk where they walked proudly with Venezuelan flags and signs that said, "thank you CWS for feeding migrants on their way north". The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has existed in the US since 1990. It permits immigrants from countries with #dangerous or #violent living conditions, such as Haiti or the Ukraine, to lawfully live and work in the US. As demonstrated in this PBS video, communities that have TPS populations need more resources, particularly related to healthcare and education. In addition, effective communication and support measures are needed for existing residents to help ease the challenges of transition and reduce tensions. It is equally important to address the root cause of the need for TPS in the first place, i.e., the dangerous living conditions from which individuals flee. What can the global community do to restore and support sustainable safe living conditions in affected countries? Upstream solutions are desperately needed. https://lnkd.in/ePFHzjnM

The #righttoeducation is inevitable for #humandevelopment, and #states are duty-bound to alleviate barriers that hinder access to #education. Education plays a crucial role in empowering #refugees and allows them to participate in the #inclusivegrowth of the host #country. An #investment in the education of refugees would go a long way to integrate them into the local #labormarket, as well as their #integration into #society. Education is an essential factor in improving the #socioeconomic status of refugees. States are urged to uphold their #obligation to enable access to education for refugees. #un #unhcr #unhabitat #unwomen #unga #sdgs2030 #ecosoc #empowerment #refugeerights #refugeeempowerment #refugeesupport #asylumseekers #persecution #educationforchange #equality #antidiscrimination #harmony #inclusiveeducation #inclusivedevelopment #inclusiveculture

In West and Central Africa, despite recent progress, nearly half a million refugee children remain without access to education. School enrolment rates for refugees in the region lag behind the global average, posing a significant challenge to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, escalating insecurity has led to a doubling of school closures to more than 13,000 by the end of the school year 2023. #InternationalEducationDay is a reminder of the critical role of education in promoting peace and development. In a region plagued by violence and insecurity, where attacks on education are on the rise, the commitment to support the education community is paramount. The path to sustainable development requires leaving no child behind, underscoring the urgency of strengthening social cohesion through education in partnership with host communities. The international community must unite to end attacks on schools and teachers and ensure sustainable support for quality learning for every child in search of a better future.

As politicians return to Parliament this week, we’re looking at ways that our asylum system could work better for everyone. Here are messages from some of the experts who know best. ⚠️Refugee children are still being placed at risk in adult accommodation. 🛟Too many refugees have no safe way to apply to reach the UK. 💔Refugee families too often remain separated, because of our broken family reunion system. ❗We need safe routes, and a fair and humane asylum system. 📢Join us in asking the Government for simple changes that will save lives. #TogetherWithRefugees #saferoutesnow #FamiliesTogether #refugeeswelcome #UKpolitics
