As I watch this Tiffany & Co. ad, it makes me sad. Some time ago, I explored the websites of all the major maisons to create my #jewellery wish list. It was essential for me that the creations were in my taste yet not widespread and very regognisable. The other day, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw all the influencers wearing the Lock bracelet by #TiffanyAndCo - and it lost its leading position on my wish list the same day. Now I see the necklace, which was one of my favorites, all over the media - and it is sadly losing its sparkle too. Both models have slightly lost their exclusivity for me. There is a notable difference in ways to capture the hearts (and wallets) of aspirational customers versus VICs. LVMH knows that - and gives different approaches. A few month ago I got an offer to put my hands on limited edition Tiffany & Co. x Arsham T1 Bracelet - only 186 sets were made. It felt unique - and that was the feeling I wanted to get from items in a wish-list. I got the offer for T1 bracelet from one of LVMH companies. As that particular company considered me as VIC I could use their newly-launched personalized service for high spenders and such offers were part of the service. Similar project idea has been in my head for some time. As a #VIC loyalty consultant in luxury fashion I was excited to observe how it would work in the hands of the #luxury biggest player. It failed. *** What was this LVMH company? Why did it lose my loyalty with that VIC service? Are you selling like a billboard—loud, flashy, and one-directional? Unless you want to make as many dials as cars on a busy highway during rush hour, we can do better! "Everything to Build Anything" - Guerry Lumber what a great ad and eye catching for sure! "As a billboard, this is brilliant, but far too often sales reps try this approach on their prospects. What the heck do I mean? Follow me here. "Hi prospect, (aka future client of your competitor) OUCH! Have I told you about everything we sell that I think can help you? Our product is the best and our services are better than ice cream on a hot day in Florida. I'm sure you want to hear more?' (The trick here is not waiting for a response and continuing to talk about your products.) Are you ready to write me a blank check? (Insert pic of sales rep thinking about how they are going to spend the commission and how good the new Rolex will look on their wrist, only to realize the prospect already hung up the phone.) What went wrong? I thought this was sales? Why did they hang up? Back to the original tag: "Everything to Build Anything." Far too often, we get caught up in selling the "Everything" and miss the "Anything." The "Anything" is what your client needs! Did you ask? Do you know? Did they tell you, or do you just think you understand what they want? We are not catchy billboards, we are sales leaders! Listen with the intent to learn and understand, and the 'Everything' will become clear. (Now go spend the commission you earned!)
