Dustin Martin plays his 300th AFL game today for the Richmond Football Club. It has been an incredible career which includes 3 x Premierships 🏆 3 x Norm Smith Medals 🥇 and 1 x Brownlow Medal 🎖. According to our Gemba Asset Power Score he is the most marketable player in the AFL - Australian Football League with a score of 3,765, Patrick Dangerfield is next on 3,461. Asset power is a measure of marketability across 4 key elements - reach, interest, influence and momentum. His impact will be on full display today for Richmond Football Club vs Hawthorn Football Club at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The average attendance for Richmond so far this year has been 43,000. Our Gemba predictive attendance model is forecasting over 80,000 today. In addition to ticket sales, merchandise sales will be huge. In today's digital age athletes have never had so much influence. Whether it's Messi on US soccer, Caitlin Clark in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) or more locally Reece Walsh in the National Rugby League. At only 21 the Brisbane Broncos star has an asset power score of 3,543 just behind super star Penrith Panthers Captain Nathan Cleary on 3,594. Walsh has more social media followers than any other club in the National Rugby League. He has helped the Bronco's hit a membership record, sell out games and is set to become the highest paid Bronco ever. Athletes have always been the stars of the show. But they have never had as much commercial influence over sport as they do today. #sportsbiz #sportsbusiness #sportsmarketing #afl #nrl

The Worst Team in The Premier League! 🧐⚽🤯 If you were asked about the WORST TEAM in Premier League history, who would come to mind? Well, Derby County Football Club's journey from 2006 to 2008 is etched in football history as a challenging and tumultuous period. After a five-year absence from the English top flight, Derby earned promotion under manager Billy Davies in 2007, but they struggled to compete in the top flight during the 2007-2008 season. With a meager 11 points, they set an infamous record for the lowest points total in Premier League history, winning just one game all season, plagued by defensive frailties and a lack of offensive firepower. Managerial changes, including Paul Jewell replacing Davies in November, failed to reverse the club's fortunes. Derby's campaign was marked by notorious defeats, including heavy losses to Liverpool Football Club (6-0), Chelsea Football Club (6-1), and Aston Villa Football Club (6-0). The Rams' relegation was confirmed as early as March, leaving an indelible mark on the club's legacy and prompting a subsequent period of rebuilding and resurgence. 📺Watch the video - https://lnkd.in/g_EG-vtk #sportsjournalism #football #soccer #sportsindustry #sportsbusiness #sponsorship #sportsmarketing #footballnews #sportsnews #footballbusiness #sportsmanagement #1minfootball

Player to Watch #31 FRANCO ESCOBAR Franco Escobar is a 29 year old right back from Argentina who plays for the Houston Dynamo of the MLS. There were rumors of him joining Inter Miami, but those have quieted down since Weigandt signed from Boca. Escobar is a fighter who has excellent defensive ability on top of his work rate. He can play centrally, and has been playing as a left back this year, making him extremely versatile. Let’s see what else makes him special. The following rankings are amongst outside backs (at least 1,350 minutes played) of FBRef's "men's next 14 competitions" comparison group in the last 360 days with data on a per 90 basis. This comparison group is a set of similar leagues. Defensively, he ranks in the top 10% for tackles and interceptions. He is strong in possession as well. He ranks in the top 30% for success take ons and top 10% in take on success rate. On top of this he ranks in the top 2% for pass accuracy and top 25% for completed passes. He ranks in the top 10% for non pen goals and top 20% for non pen expected goals, which is interesting given his usual defensive priorities. Transfermarkt estimates his value at $800k. His contract is up at the end of the season, but the Dynamo have a one year option. His versatility and tenacious defending are admirable. He's not the most impressive technically speaking, but he compliments his game with a more simple style of distribution and play when in possession, making him more effective. I believe he would excel as a wide center back in a back 3/5. It will be interesting to monitor him as the year progresses. I created the pizza plot below to depict Escobar’s percentile rank in some of the metrics mentioned above amongst other outside backs in FBRef’s "men's next 14 competitions" in the last 360 days with a minimum of 1,350 minutes played. All data is from FBRef, provided by Opta, and is on a per 90 basis. #soccer #football #socceranalytics #footballanalytics #datascout #technicalscout #fútbol #fu4tbolsudamericana #francoescobar #houstondynamo #franciscoculasso #agency #statsperform

🚀 **Sheffield United’s Set-Piece Struggles: Defensive Analysis** ⚽️ ### 📊 **Set-Piece Statistics:** - **Goals Conceded:** Out of the 104 goals Sheffield United conceded this season, 20 came from set-pieces. - **Percentage:** This means that approximately 19.2% of their goals conceded were from set-pieces. ### 🔄 **Defensive Issues in Set-Pieces:** 1. **Tactical Awareness:** Sheffield United players often lacked tactical awareness. When opponents blocked their movements, the players struggled to read the situation and adjust accordingly, leading to critical defensive lapses. 2. **Ball Watching:** A recurring issue was ball watching. Defenders frequently focused too much on the ball rather than tracking their opponents' movements, allowing attackers to find space and score. 3. **Late Pressure:** The team also struggled with applying timely pressure on opponents during set-pieces. This delay allowed attackers to gain an advantage and create scoring opportunities. 4. **Inconsistent Marking: Sometimes, before the ball was played, Sheffield United defenders would initially mark their opponents but then inexplicably leave them unmarked. This lapse allowed opponents to score or assist with ease. 5. **Lack of Jumping: On several occasions, Sheffield United defenders failed to jump when defending set-pieces. This lack of aerial challenge provided opponents with easy opportunities to head the ball into the goal. #SheffieldUnited #PremierLeague #SetPieceDefense #FootballTactics #SoccerAnalysis #DefensiveStrategy #Relegation Hayden Whiting Alex Bailey Jack Lester Alan Knill Abdullah Alghamdi Yusuf Giansiracusa Made With Once Sport

Ipswich Town Face Fierce Battle To Land League One Defender https://ift.tt/k7p1EZQ Ipswich Town are one of several clubs monitoring the future of Wigan Athletic defender Charlie Hughes ahead of the summer transfer window, according to INews. The 20-year-old is the subject of fierce interest from a number of Championship and Premier League sides, with his future at Wigan Athletic looking increasingly unclear based on the number of new teams targeting him. How has Hughes faired this season? The 2023/24 campaign is Hughes’ first breakout season in the Wigan Athletic first-team and has been a crucial member of the defence in League One so far this season. In all competitions this season, Hughes has made 44 appearances for Wigan, contributing to four goals and has also captained the side on nine occasions in the league so far. This includes during Wigan’s latest League One match against Blackpool shortly before the international break. Who else is interested? According to INews journalist Mark Douglas, Ipswich Town will face swift competition to try and land the 20-year-old during the upcoming summer transfer window. Several Premier League sides including Brentford and West Ham United are also monitoring his progress and have an interest in acquiring the former Liverpool academy defender in the coming months. How could this move impact Hughes’ development Since Kieran McKenna took the reigns as manager of Ipswich Town, the club have taken an entirely new direction, clinching promotion back to the Championship and remaining in contention to win the title in the second tier this season, with the Tractor Boys almost guaranteed a playoff spot already. The club also have a fairly young squad with players such as Jack Taylor and Leif Davis in the building, which could allow Hughes to settle in quickly. There is a strong likelihood that he could come in and compete for a starting spot if Ipswich failed to go up this season, which would only improve the player’s existing qualities as well as allow him to work on his weaknesses.
The post Ipswich Town Face Fierce Battle To Land League One Defender first appeared on The Deck.
Callum Moseley Read More At Look Sports Media
