On 29 August 2024, Ciarb (East Asia Branch) had the pleasure of having the Hon. Geoffrey Ma, former Chief Justice of the HKCFA and current arbitrator/mediator, for a fireside chat. The theme of the talk was "critical importance of arbitration in Hong Kong and its future”. During the fireside chat, Mr Ma answered various questions, which were moderated and delivered by our own Committee Member Jennifer Wu, on various topics ranging from the role of arbitration in the administration of justice to how to effectively manage arbitral disputes. A big thank you to Jennifer Wu for moderating and our events team for their their tireless effort organising events. Ciarb (East Asia Branch) organises monthly talks for its members as part of the member benefit package. For more information, please visit our website at www.ciarbasia.org and follow this page. China-Africa Investments, commercial law and Strategy | Stakeholder Relations | Strategic Research | Business Coach| Apiarist
During the Intellectual Property Scholar (IPSA) Conference plenary panel session, I had the opportunity to present on the topic: "Analyzing the Impact of Large-Scale Investments on Local Intellectual Property Policies and Practices—Focusing on China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and its Influence on Africa's IP Framework." This subject attracted considerable interest, with the consensus being that Africa could significantly benefit from understanding and possibly adapting some of China's strategies. The discussion was so engaging that it spurred a suggestion for a dedicated conference solely on the topic of China-Africa IP collaborations to further explore these complex dynamics. We anticipated it would and had planned for it . Prof Caroline B Ncube asked "what is the Africa We want?" with regards to IP. If we are not involved in standards setting we will be players in other people's plans. let's engage for the Africa we want. #IP #standards2035 #theafricawewant #FABA #developingnations only 50 seats are available for in-person participation. IHosted by DSI-NRF SARChI Research Chair: Intellectual Property, Innovation and Development in Partnership with the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance How can we help you do things differently?
