It is always a fascinating idea to sit down and talk to an author about their new book and what gets them going. What's more interesting is when they start telling you how their ideas work, or why they built a character in a particular style or gave it a particular outlook. I had the opportunity to speak with Ivy Ngeow, author of the new book, The American Boyfriend. Apart from the main character of her book, we spoke about a couple of other things as well. Of course, since time was limited, it was a short interview. Here are the excerpts. Do read.
“She’s a trained architect and visual designer and she’s an author. When she’s not designing beautiful interiors or buildings, she’s busy writing psychological thrillers. We managed to catch up with Ivy Ngeow (饶艾薇)on the sidelines of her talk on her new book #TheAmericanBoyfriend at Kunzum.” Read the full interview at the link below kunzum.com/ivy-ngeow/ Penguin Random House India Bhavneet Singh Aurora

❓Do you agree with these statements❓ ‘King James I improved the drainage and created Rosamond's Pond in St James’s Park.’ ‘The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.’ ‘While the original Hagia Sofia was built in the 4th century by Constantine the Great, very little remains of this structure.’ ❌As a copy-editor, I can’t agree that the featured declarations are facts.❌ I re-word these ‘statements’ when they cross my desk. This can take some time (who was James I’s engineer/Jahan’s architect?). #LanguageMatters #Copyediting Image: www.royal.uk (note that the abbreviated ‘saint’ omits then includes a full point).

#fiction #creativeessays #writing #substack #noasterisks #taraleighparks I decided to do something that seems out of style these days: I’m writing pieces that don’t offer career/self-help advice. Instead, I’m using Substack for fiction plus creative essays. I only have a few pieces posted, but I’ve got many in the works. So, if you enjoy reading creative essays and fiction in addition to self-help articles like, “How to Choose the Right Filter for Your Asshole Photos,” and “How to Gain 5000 followers Each Day by 6:00AM,” and “How to Make Six Figures by 6:30AM,” you should check out my Substack NO ASTERISKS. I just put up Part 1 of a two-part series called, “The Janitor and the Goddess: Love and Legacies Lost, Part 1.” PART I, I say. This series is set in one of America’s ugliest, most inefficient pieces of architecture. If you love ∙bad architecture ∙bad attitudes ∙name dropping ∙hookers that love blackmail ∙love stories that make you hope you never fall in love ∙and tuna fish read this story:
