Ballpoint pens are underappreciated as an art medium.. I have no way of knowing what the vast majority’s appreciation level of the ball point pen is, and indeed, have never even seen a critique about it or its usage in art, but I can well imagine it being looked down upon by traditional practitioners of ‘pen and ink’ drawings with Indian ink. I personally find the humble BIC ball pen, superb for fine ink drawings! (The one with the yellow jacket and black cap) Its fine, opaque black quality of line is consistent and reliable, and much better than any other similar product, (including the BIC with transparent jacket which is bold and more suitable for writing only). The BIC is comparatively cheap, and in a competent hand, can manage the finest grades of shading, crosshatching and detail without blobs or leaking. Before now, I have completed fine sketches in traditional engraving style during a three-quarter hour, bumpy London bus ride, with no more problem than anticipating the sudden jerks caused by the continual braking in heavy traffic! Another possible enhancement is the pen’s aptitude for taking a coloured ‘wash’ application with broad felt-nib pens, directly over the ink work, some elements of the felt-nib pens’ pigments can occasionally loosen the ball point pen’s ink, if there is a concentration of it somewhere on the work, but this usually merely causes no more than an interesting smear/blend to the tail of a line. #artistsiva #ballpenart #artmentor #creativity #learning #drawing #art #artist #create #imagination #worldofart #artwork #painting #sketches
