🏆 Rewards don’t always have to be monetary to motivate... My son’s community elementary school in Oakland holds a monthly assembly where award recipients run through a high-five tunnel and take a photo with the Principal. These rewards recognize academic achievement and living the school values. Then, they chant their school cheer in unison: “I have the right to belong. I have the right to make good choices. I have the right to learn.” Emerson Elementary knows what motivates its student audience: movement, cheering, affirmations and a certificate they can showcase to their family. 💡 The lesson here: Take the time to understand what your team truly values. Financial rewards can be motivators, but they alone won't build culture, camaraderie, and loyalty. LinkedIn Community: What's the most unique or memorable reward you've received or given? Proud mama moment: Here’s my son receiving his reward last week! -- 👋 I'm Laura. Five (not so obvious) ways to increase student engagement by creating meaningful involvement opportunities: To foster a sense of belonging and enhance student success, higher education administrators must innovate how they engage students beyond academics. Here are five often overlooked ways to do this: (1) Establish interdisciplinary student organizations that bring together students from various fields, encouraging diverse ideas and solutions. (2) Create leadership development certifications for students actively involved in extracurricular activities, giving them formal recognition for skills they acquire. (3) Simplify the process for students to start and manage their own organizations, lowering barriers and encouraging diverse participation. (4) Partner with local non-profits or businesses to offer service-learning projects that connect students with real-world issues. (5) Lastly, develop peer-led programs where students can take ownership of mentoring and organizing events, fostering leadership and inclusion across campus.
