Daily Dollop of Wallop #55 I spent a lot of last week being surrounded by people in an environment that was heavily influenced by three things: Wine, music and art. Just by chance, I hosted a few wine tasting experiences that happened to be in spaces that were heavily and clearly influenced by local art, architecture and cultural nods. Present, at all three separate events, were musicians and DJ's. Now, you all know how food, drink, art and music interact with each other and that they have a very primal way of uniting people. Connecting people. I should also say, nobody attending these tastings were there to get completely squiffed whilst listening to 90's dance anthems on repeat. This was as pure as pure gets in terms of having the following things, all aligned and all visibly present and therefore allowing guests to experience them: 1. Modern art (I know nothing about art at all, but this stuff was incredibly vibrant, captivating and utterly mesmerising. Kind of like Scream meets the album cover of Oxygen by Jean Michele Jarre) 2. 20 wines (less at the 3rd event I did) to taste that were a complete mix of colour, style and substance 3. DJ's that actually DJ'd (not the button pushers that us the beat sync button all the time). There were James Hype style DJ's. Artists really. The music went from Ambient to Hip Hop and Acid Jazz to Amapiano. All dictated by the wines that were being tasted at the time. There was no real food element, no big time wine producers, no fancy pants tasting books and no pretence. Just a collection of cultural touch points that genuinely captivated the room. And so it got me thinking. Isn't it about time that trade tastings should be the same dynamic as this? I know, I know, there are some importers and distributors out there that already onto this. But when your a communications agency and you win a contract to promote the wines of a certain country or region over the course of a year, I would be the first to put on an event protocol that wasn't just a boring room full of wines with a powerpoint and a couple of people talking terroir to a load of somms. We can, collectively do much better than that. much, much better. Can't we? Thoughts welcome. Leverage your beverage.

I research, teach, strategize & help to create successful businesses. I communicate through my novel "Becoming Somebody" & "Customer Experience Management in the Caribbean Concepts, Case Studies and Challenges"
Day 7 of Reggae Month and Today's Song is .... Red Red Wine...That song has such a great beat that I start to feel good even if I am not imbibing. According to the song "Only one thing makes me forget"and "Red red wine you make me feel so fine You keep me rocking all of the time Red red wine, you make me feel so grand I feel a million dollars when you're just in my hand" If this is true of any of your direct reports or team members you have to take action sooner rather than later! Three quick points: 1. Do your leaders, supervisors, managers know the signs of substance abuse? 2. Does your firm have an Employee Assistance Programme for individuals who may be abusing alcohol or drugs? Guess what I have discovered - many do but their supervisors do not know and therefore cannot suggest that their employee get support. 3. Are your supervisors/team leaders comfortable in having conversations about these issues? Most are not and will need training and support. Don't let red red wine or any substance destroy your workforce. Have a plan and train everyone its that plan. https://lnkd.in/epzpawWC

Let BLONDIE make your white wine TASTE better. Really?!.. The answer: absolutely. Recent scientific studies consistently reveal that pairing wine with music that elicits a harmonious emotional response notably enhances the overall experience. Intensifying the flavour and our pleasure derived from it. If you favour your Chablis or Piquepouls, consider playing Blondie's lively and upbeat tunes. You'll notice a remarkable 40% increase in its zestiness and refreshment. For those of you who prefer Malbecs or Merlots, indulge in grand, sweeping orchestral or operatic melodies. This choice will elevate the wine's richness and full-bodied character by around 40%. Still skeptical? Give it a try yourself. It's yet another demonstration of the profound influence our senses hold. 👍 #sensoryresearch #sensoryscience #wine #sounddesign #music #marketing
