Thought to share some practical takeaways from someone who helped in the background to plan these events... 🟢 Host an event on Mon-Wed, venues have lower F&B mins 🟠 Work with local restaurants instead of chains; they tend to be more flexible and willing to accommodate your needs 🔵 ASK AWAY. Some of the best details at our events came about simply because we asked if they were possible... and most of the time, people said yes! 🟣 Consider hosting a cocktail hour instead of a sit-down dinner; this allows for more flexibility in predicting attendance and no-show rates 💖 Overall, people are eager for human connection; real-life experiences make an impact and drive awareness in ways digital campaigns can’t

I was introduced to a concept last week by Alex Cherucheril that he called "horizontal mentorship;" the idea is that the power dynamics of traditional mentorship don't always makes sense, and there is a place for a more equitable exchange of value / knowledge. I've been thinking a lot about my day at Breakfast Palooza last week. I gained so much by being there. It's very interesting to me that there can be hundreds of people in a room listening to the same speaker and everyone comes away with something different that resonates with them. Here's what resonated with me. Jason Jenkins: 1. Live the law of subtraction. Remove the things from your life that don't belong then do less with greater purpose. 2. You can't give something that you don't possess. Kevin Guest 1. Understanding who you are will determine what you do. 2. You have to be in tune with your values. Dan Clark - Global Speaker 1.Facts tell, stories sell. 2. How high is your bar? We usually only go as high as someone asks us to go. And, now we all know that in a former life, I was Bess Bailey, a flapper from the roaring 20's. Murder mysteries for the win. Don’t be that person at the company holiday party. A few tips: Cap your alcohol - an open bar isn’t the like-equivalent of Sizzler’s all-you-can-eat buffet. Don’t be the protagonist - you never want to be the main character in anyone’s story when reminiscing of past events. Be intentional - have the conversation and keep it moving. Don’t be a stage-5 clinger. Don’t talk shop - it’s the easiest trap. Get to know people beyond upcoming projects. Don’t be naive - people watch. People talk.
