Numerous Etsy sellers have reported that the company surveyed them about shipping this week. Sadly, no one was able to provide me with screenshots, but here's what I know: 🔸 the survey seemed somewhat personalized, based both on answers the sellers gave, and in a few cases, actual recent orders from that seller's shop 🔸 many questions seemed targeted at figuring out how sellers shipped, and if they noticed/experienced any issues with their carriers 🔸 everyone reported at least one question about when they marked items as shipped vs. when the carrier received them It's really difficult to say if Etsy was collecting general info here, or was (at least in some cases) comparing the answers to Etsy's automated records of the shop's shipping history. ⚠ Etsy's Star Seller literature says that sellers should not mark orders as shipped until the packages are with the carrier, but their early enforcement of that rule in 2021 led to some angry sellers being penalized due to scan issues with the carrier. The company might want to enforce that rule again, and could be trying to figure out how to tell slow shipping from slow scanning. CEO Josh Silverman has said they want more accurate estimated delivery dates this year, as well as faster ones. This survey could also be related to that work. I am also aware of a few shops that were suspended recently after their packages weren't scanned until after their processing times, although at least one has since been reinstated. Is it a coincidence this survey came out around the same time? Maybe... #EtsySellerNews #shipping

I received the shipping survey and with having only 1 order that was dropped off the morning after making the label, it happened to be one that shows what I have been saying for a long time. I drive to the post office daily, weather permitting, and I scan at the Kiosk in the post office lobby. My post office clerks refuse to scan unless priority or express, and there is always a long line with only 2 clerks working. I was told it is a delivery scan, so they are not obligated to scan before sending to the distribution center. I scan and get a receipt at the Kiosk, and put in special package bin, but my package gets sent to the distribution center with NO SCAN by the local post office, just my Kiosk scan which says "USPS is expecting the item". I get penalized because the scan doesn't start for another day due to arriving late at night at the distribution center and that being the first scan. After 13 years on Etsy, I really don't feel safe, the reasons for shut down are all our of my control. I just had to fight 3 items taken down, within 6 days, and Etsy apologized for 'error' and allowed me to relist. Took me hours of gathering proof to get my items back on sale. Sad, treated like criminals before we can prove our innocence.
