Yesterday, I read Scott Galloway’s latest piece on the constant “battle for attention” in the Entertainment industry, and the continuous shift from large to small screen consumption habits. MrBeast’s numbers and approach deserve to be acknowledged, and this graph comparing his streaming numbers with Netflix’s new shows really helps. Other interesting insights come from Lex Fridman’s interview with Jimmy: 2 points worth mentioning. 1) Working as a startup, testing and investing in different formats and business assets to upscale productions, is crucial in the long run - as highlighted in our 2021 paper on how “Entertainment is eating the world” (still relevant - link in the comment for those who want to recover it, together with other source mentioned); 2) The gap in production efforts and results driven between independent and major-led projects is rapidly shrinking, with the former far from being recognized adequately among professionals. Keeping an open eye on this topic can bring many benefits, not only for creatives looking for new opportunities besides AAA productions, but also for business and marketing agents looking for new strategies to grow their business, either through the direct support of Creators or the early discovery and exploit of hard-to-reverse consumption habits and influence-power changes.
