Morning y’all, We are about to begin a hiring search for an Event Sales Coordinator position for our Team & it’s moments of transition or expansion we are reminded of three keys to Team Building when identifying characteristics in those we add; 1) Seek Intelligence - People follow smart people. - When we see someone intelligent do something we wouldn’t normally pick up on, we stop and wonder what do they know that we don’t & then challenge ourselves to learn more. 2) Find Divergent Thinkers - It’s hard to stand firm against popular opinion. - We feel pressure to compromise, and it’s easy at such times to lose perspective of what’s important to cling to & what isn’t. - Standing your ground when you are right about something important and being able to admit when you are wrong are both virtues… but “Being stubborn is only a virtue when you are right.” 3) Value Competitiveness above all else - We can Coach the rest. - We can Coach right & wrong, strategy & tactics, reading the room & second order thinking, but we can’t Coach a Competitive nature. - Being Competitive is nurtured over time out of an environment of commitment, sacrifice & discipline. We caught up with Amanda Maloney, endorsement scheme team leader at Which?, to catch a glimpse of a day in her life… What is a typical day for you? ‘My role entails managing a team of eight account managers, and our team is responsible for selling and managing Which?'s endorsements. We drive new business sales and work with businesses that use the endorsement logos to ensure a strong relationship with them. The other part of my role is delivering our strategy for the year, which includes reaching a number of targets to consolidate our role as the UK’s No. 1 consumer endorsement.’ What do you love about what you do? ‘I enjoy working with my team on complex sales and looking at ways we can break into low-converting areas. It allows us to take a step back, look at the data and how we can work with businesses to show we are the market leader in this area and that no one tests as rigorously as we do.' What would you do if you had an extra hour in the day? ‘I’m Australian so a number of my family and friends live in Sydney – the time difference can be very inconvenient! If I had an extra hour in the day I'd like to spend time FaceTiming people back in Sydney. Or I would also like to spend more time in the kitchen experimenting with new and time-consuming recipes (using one of our Best Buy products of course!).' What are your top tips for your career? ‘Don’t be afraid of change or rejection. What you do with this signals your tenacity and how adaptable you can be. These are the kind of skills you need in the ever-changing workforce. I would also encourage people to remain curious and ask questions. Asking questions can lead to you learning new things, which makes you better at your role and can lead to positive changes being made.’

We’re welcoming our new Account Director, Harry Martin to the team! Harry brings a fresh perspective to the role, and we’re thrilled to have him on board. Here’s a glimpse into our conversation with Harry: What is your role at Yoke? So as Account Director, I’ll be driving new business as well as managing those accounts, taking a deeper dive into their recruitment strategy to see how best we can optimise it. What do you hope to achieve at Yoke? My main aim at Yoke is to create long lasting relationships with my clients and partners, where I’m their trusted advisor for their recruitment strategy to achieve business goals. How has your experience been so far? Well obviously its only day 3! But having Yoke as a client before its almost the analogy of the first week at secondary school but you knew everyone from primary school, so it’s been really refreshing to start at a company where you actually know and love everyone. They’ve made me feel right at home! What previous experiences or skills do you bring to the team? Being in sales for 10 years, I’ve learned that my strongest ability is to quickly build robust relationships and trust with my clients, which aligns with the Yoke values. What are you most excited about in your new role? For me, I’m extremely excited to see the company go from strength to strength, and to be part of this growth phase. Embedding myself in the Yoke culture, building and nurturing relationships with clients to help them achieve business goals and most importantly have fun along the way. I’m incredibly lucky to be part of something special. Final and most important question, how do you have your eggs? Me, scrambled every time, love fluffy scrambled eggs but it can’t be wet it has to be dry!

Two years ago I found myself in a completely unforeseen role in my company. I’ve worn almost every hat at Swift Industries as I painstakingly built my company, but THIS was completely foreign territory. When I found myself standing in as the interim Head of Sales, I was completely out of my element and treading water, with a team that knew exponentially more than I did (Very cool, yes. Humbling, MEGA). Here’s how I navigated my way from free fall to solid footing, and into one of the most fulfilling roles I’ve had to date in my business. Not in order of priority (it’s all the ingredients that made the special-sauce) • hired a sales coach and bought wholly into his expertise. Now that I have my footing, I can take some and leave some based on what I now know about sales and buyers. • listened obsessively to sales podcasts • asked my team for in depth walk-through’s of their sales calls and visits • deconstructed and reconstructed my team’s sales pitches on repeat • asked for LOTS of help! Even from my buyers. I’m amazed how productive it is to step back and honestly tell a buyer: “hey, I’m new to this. Will you help me learn my role by walking me through your needs as a buyer?” Or being humble enough to say, “I’m totally new to this role, would you mind breaking down that terminology for me?” • Rinse—> Repeat Honestly, this is my process for navigating generally uncharted territory. What I haven’t elaborated on here, but’s really crucial is 1. The critical headspace for meeting the unknown and 2. What I’ve learned along the way about my selling style and the key ingredient to success. More on that down the road. ☔️They don’t call me the rainmaker for nothing! ☔️ How do I sell? What do I think the best sales people have in common? What have I learned after being in sales for a long time? Well I’ll go into this in more detail in this weeks Thursday newsletter - no gatekeeping here! But a taster from what I think makes a great salesperson is: 💥 Having knowledge and belief in the product/service which gives confidence in the product/service to the customer. 💥 Active listening, really hearing what the customer is saying, not assuming you know what they want, really listen to what they say, what are their pain points? What lights them up, what do they value? 💥 Building rapport/relationships, people buy from either people like them/ people they are inspired by or that they just like! As I said, I am going to go into it in a lot more detail with some key tips on Thursday but I would love to hear from you now. **The Importance of the Right Place in #SalesStrategy** In #sales strategy and techniques, one crucial aspect is positioning the right product in the right place. Yesterday, I came across an example that vividly illustrates this principle. In a tunnel on a busy, noisy street, three different musicians were playing. Despite their talents, the location was unsuitable due to the weather, noise, and heavy traffic. This scenario highlights a fundamental lesson for sales professionals: even the best product or service can fail if not presented in an optimal setting. For those in the sales industry, this serves as a powerful reminder that success depends not just on what you offer but also on where and how you present it. Effective sales require thoughtful consideration of the environment to ensure your message reaches and resonates with your audience.

The best closing story I had in my sales career….. I was asked recently to share my best closing story over my 20 years of selling. This is the story. I was a young hotshot sales person at the innocent age of 25 years old. I had sat in a training presentation by the talented Terri Phipps who taught us creative closing techniques. One of them she called the “beer close” which I immediately loved. I figured I would give it a try. Essentially the beer close is when you have chased and exhausted the customer for so long and nothing worked. You throw the playbook out the window and try something so crazy it could work. You arrive at the office with a 6 pack of beer and storm in there office to tell them you are there to celebrate the day they finally sign the deal. Now keep in mind you need to have the right relationship with the client to attempt this. I figured I would give it a shot since I was new and loved beer. After months of having this deal slip, I showed up to his office with a 6 pack of beer, walked passed the receptionist, stormed into his office and cracked a beer. He looked at me in complete shock as he was in a meeting with someone else. I froze and then he stood up and grabbed a bottle of whiskey from his desk and said “what are we drinking for”. I pulled out the contract and explained we are celebrating the day he finally signs. We enjoyed our drinks at 9:30am and I walked out with a signed contract. After reflecting on this memory, it makes me think how important it is for us to read the play and adjust. Too often we are rigid in our sales motion, and forget that selling requires human connection. There is art and science when selling, and the best leaders I have worked with support creativity and trying new things. Sales is not a set playbook that works 100% of the time. We need to recognize there are situations where we need to evolve and get creative to meet the customer. #fractional #salesleadership #fractionalleadership #

Something to consider... Do you ever see an event and think, "If only I could afford the time, money, and effort it takes to get people together?" That's what makes your sports rep unique. I'm not your typical salesperson. Built into what I do is a need to have a plan, and I always have a plan. I've seen enough to know that things don't always go perfectly, so I always have a backup, too. I'm in sales, but just as much, I'm in event planning. The ingredients of the events I plan obviously come pre-baked, and it's my job to make sure you find the best bite of the bread. If you ever look at an outing and think it's too much work, test me. Put me to work at my own job! If it's too much money, test me. I probably have another option! If it's too much time, T E S T me. I'm here 6-8 hours a day, and all it takes is a minute to tell me the fire you need me to put out! Listen, I get it. I see 50, 90, 250 tickets and wonder whether I know that many people, let alone if I have the mental capacity to take care of them all. Just test me. I'm not your typical salesperson.
