Did you know that 70% of business owners feel they lack the knowledge to navigate mergers and acquisitions confidently? 😬 Let's change that!
Welcome to the first edition of "M&A Minute" where I will try to demystify the world of mergers and acquisitions with simple, bite-sized shares.
Let's start with some basic terms:
1. Merger: When two companies combine to form a new entity. Think of it as a partnership where both parties come together as equals.
2. Acquisition: This is when one company purchases another. The acquiring company takes over the operations and assets of the acquired company.
3. Due Diligence: A thorough investigation conducted by the buyer to assess the target company's business, assets, liabilities, and financial performance.
It’s like doing a detailed homework assignment before making a big decision.
4. Valuation: The process of determining the worth of a company. This involves analyzing financial statements, market conditions, and growth potential.
5. Synergy: The idea that the combined value and performance of two companies will be greater than the sum of the separate individual parts. In other words, 1+1=3! Yaaas baaaby! This is where M&A can be a net positive for both parties and where we, at Up & Over Advisors love to help like-minded, value-aligned, companies amplify & accelerate each other's impact.
