In our latest article, Wanja Kildal et al. demonstrate the potential of deep learning models to accurately detect protein expression in immunohistochemically stained tissue samples across multiple cancer types. The study developed models for nuclear, cytoplasmic, and membranous staining patterns, achieving high accuracy rates compared to manual scoring. Importantly, the AI-driven approach showed a prognostic value similar to that of manual scoring in survival analyses. Today, let's observe these two Tertiary Lymphoid Structures (TLSs) detected through a computational H&E combining TO-PRO-3 for nuclear staining and eosin in a non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) sample. These TLSs were centrally situated within the tissue, around Z scan 560 out of more than 960 total Z scans, each representing a depth of about four μm. Had this sample been processed for 2D imaging, these structures would have been deeply embedded within the tissue, necessitating several hundred sections to be taken before emerging into a slice for capture. Conversely, with our non-invasive 3D imaging platform, we effortlessly located, isolated, and measured the volume of these two TLSs hidden in the tissue biopsy.

Exciting news about cancer treatment! Canadian researchers at INRS have made a quantum leap using ultrafast lasers to accelerate electrons 1,000 times beyond previous limits, offering new hopes for radiation therapy. This could mean more precise tumour targeting and protection for healthy tissue. Plus, it could shed light on the FLASH effect, potentially making treatments safer for patients resistant to standard therapies. When a Ga-68 PSMA PET/MRI scan is incorporated into the diagnostic process, over 80% of cases were diagnosed accurately without conducting a biopsy.
