"Mobilizing commitment coupled with a Speedy- Sticky Change Progress" About a year ago a very astute female leader looked me up at a event I was speaking at and said "tell me about S-Squared" This a brand I own that is defined by two incredibly important verbs that are just what the doctor ordered when it comes to leading companies during times of uncertainty. SPEEDY & STICKY Lets see what she has done with those two action verbs. Today I completed the Strategic Fit to Compete Culture & Leadership Audit ( S- Squared ) for a mid-sized fast growing CPG firm. This business is about 1.5 billion in revenues with 8 thousand employees in 15 countries around the world. The leader of this group was unlike most leaders in that she didn't lead top down change by giving inspirational speeches to mobilize improved performance or by making hollow promises that rarely come to fruition. She did not introduce random financial incentives to motivate people. Nor did she take further cost cutting initiatives or launch some waste of time and energy zapping Leadership or HR program of the month. But what she did do is provide opportunity, strategic direction and air support for our group of internal change agents to lead a "bottoms up" re-invention. If this is something you would consider? What would it look like in your business unit if you brought SPEEDY AND STICKY to fruition? This is the STICKY-SPEEDY process that lead her to impeccable strategy execution, 55% trust improvement from her predecessor, a 30% increase in revenue, and 5 new product lines geared and financed for the next generation customer: 1. Facilitated a robust discussion with Senior leaders and Board members in order to create a Strategic Direction statement that they were confident the total organization would buy into. ( the intel begins to pour in) 2. We interviewed this same group individually under anonymity to hear what they believed to be the strategy, past practices, habits, rituals, defensive routines that either would help the new Statement of Strategic Direction (SSD) be successful or what would cause its catastrophic failure. ( intel) 3. We then took the SSD to the general population and asked the same sort of questions. ( intel turned into valid verifiable data with strong correlations) 4. I interviewed the CEO to see where her head was at. ( Are we all watching the right movie?)
