While the wheelbase was kept the same length, the rear portion of the roof was raised for improved usability. In 1954 the 2.6-litre (LB6 engine) had it's displacement increased to 2.9-litres (VB6J) to compensate for the increased weight. This resulted in a power increase from 125 hp to 140 hp, which meant it could go from 0 to 60 mph in 10.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 120 mph (193 kph). From 1953 to 1955 the DB2/4 body was manufactured by Mariners in Birmingham, but the contract with them was not renewed and from December 1954 the bodies were manufacture by Tickford in Newport Pagnell.
