What are those white dots on the hill? Today, on Earth Day, I invite you all to shift your perspective—literally. As we zoom into the minutiae of nature, like the intricate patterns of a leaf or the dynamic rush of a waterfall, we encounter the beautiful details that are often overlooked. But when we zoom out, we see the grand scale of our planet's ecosystems, revealing how these details fit into a larger, interconnected whole. Both views are essential. They teach us about the resilience and vulnerability of our environment. They remind us why our work in sustainability, environmental science, urban planning, and related fields matters. This mesmerizing waterfall, illustrates the power of perspective. How does changing your viewpoint change what you see—and what you understand about our environment? #EarthDay #NaturePhotography #Sustainability #EnvironmentalAwareness

#CathedralThinking Thanks for sharing this concept on Fabien CROS - you described it most eloquently - and loved our podcast together. Listen to the podcast here where we discuss Cathedral thinking and collaborative ecosystems. https://lnkd.in/eHdhpKm6 See what you started Annemarie Borg [FRSA] [TTF ambassador] : ).. As ever I like to acknowledge those who shared it with me .. Annemarie and I sat in a fireside discussion that Alex Papworth set up - on nature connection - I had been working on these concepts in business given the work of regenerative business mentor Laura Storm & Jenny Andersson - and In their Regenerative journey at the time it was discussed this creating without ever seeing the fruits - which indeed is an older concept from the Bhagavad Gita spiritual texts - where we ''do not contemplate the fruits''. Anne Marie exclaimed thats 'Cathedral Thinking'. Cathedral Thinking is at the heart of the work in innovation on anything new- the newest innovation, systems and regenerative creation both in soil and in business systems/finance doesn't always sit into our regular BAU model - so you must have tenacity aside from instant gratification to make something for the future of more worth - enter Cathedral Thinking. I personally use it as a distinction to create newness when it is sometimes disconnected from 'viable' business - yet there are win wins that are created with designing and architecting the future and one thing have learnt from Laura and Jenny and from my journey to apply it is that one must have one foot in the present and one in the future that we can create - and grow a bridge in which for others to cross - I find I must be more and more inventive and tenacious and cunning to be able to live in the now whilst creating these cathedrals in the metaphor. It is at the upmost importance in a regenerative mindset to acknowledge the connections and who is a part of it - which is why I created this page that acknowledges the people who I work with, who inspired me / us - alongside Cathedral Thinking we must come away from ME and into WE. Acknowledge Simon Hedley fellow 'Ecosystem Architect' for his stand with me - and helping to be able to put this work into motion. 🌍 Cathedral Thinking: Building a Legacy for Future Generations 🏛️ In an age dominated by short-term gains and quarterly reports, it's time we embrace a timeless philosophy: Cathedral Thinking. Imagine this: Architects and builders in the Middle Ages began constructing cathedrals that they knew they would never see completed in their lifetimes. They were driven by a vision that transcended their immediate future, motivated by the knowledge that their work would benefit countless generations to come. This concept, known as Cathedral Thinking, is a powerful reminder of the impact our decisions can have on the distant future. Today, we face challenges that demand this same long-term perspective, especially when it comes to the health of our planet. 🌱 Why Cathedral Thinking Matters Now: -Environmental Sustainability: Our planet's resources are finite. Short-term exploitation without regard for ecological balance will leave our descendants with a depleted and damaged world. -Climate Change: The effects of our carbon footprint will be felt for centuries. Immediate actions for clean energy and sustainable practices are investments in a stable climate for our great-grandchildren. -Biodiversity: Protecting diverse ecosystems ensures the survival of species that form the intricate web of life, supporting all life forms, including ours Thanks Rachel Sheila Kan for sharing this concept with me ;) Let’s commit to being architects of a sustainable future. 🌍💡 #CathedralThinking #Sustainability #LongTermPlanning #FutureGenerations #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalStewardship #GreenInnovation

Rising sea levels threaten to displace millions of people worldwide. Some of our brightest minds are asking a provocative question: Instead of moving people, what if we moved our cities? On The Build Review today, host Matt Ferrell dives into the audacious concept of floating cities. From Hamburg's Hafencity to New York City's Dryline project, innovative solutions to combat the rising tides are already being implemented. But what if we thought bigger? Matt introduces us to Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, whose ambitious vision, the Oceanix City, is a UN-supported project set on creating self-sustaining, floating islands. This video feature is more than a look at a revolutionary concept; it's an invitation to engage in a critical conversation about our future and the role of innovation in solving our greatest challenges. __________________________________________ 𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒖𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒔, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬? Sustaining the built environment may seem to some as an oxymoron, but it is one of the most crucial ways sustainability shows up in our everyday life. Engineers, architects, and city planners must be precise with their designs and intentional with the auxiliary processes that feed into developing the land for human consideration. The biggest carbon exposure is buildings, with no sink to capture the off gasses of the daily energy use. This video illustrates how engineers incorporate sustainability at every phase of a project's life. #sustainability #afrofuturism #builtenvironment
