Reconciliation Week Ends, But Our Commitment Continues As National Reconciliation Week draws to a close, the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Young People (ARACY) reflects on the importance of ongoing commitment to reconciliation. While this dedicated week provides a valuable opportunity for focused learning and reflection, true reconciliation is a lifelong journey. We acknowledge the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people. We recognise the challenges they face and their enduring connection to culture and community. ARACY stands firm in its commitment to working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and communities to improve the lives and wellbeing of all children and young people in Australia. Here at ARACY, reconciliation is more than just a word. It's embedded in our principles: ➡ Respect: We value and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, and lived experiences. ➡ Relationships: We build strong and trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and communities. ➡ Self-determination: We support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to determine their own research priorities and solutions. ➡ Equity: We work towards a future where all children and young people have equal opportunities to thrive. Reconciliation is a shared responsibility. We encourage all Australians to continue their reconciliation journey beyond this week. Here are some ways you can get involved: ➡ Educate yourself: Learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and cultures. ➡ Listen to First Nations voices: Read books by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors, watch documentaries, and attend cultural events. ➡ Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses: Celebrate the incredible work being done by Indigenous communities. ➡ Advocate for change: Speak out against racism and discrimination. Let's walk together, in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, towards a brighter future for all our children and young people. #Reconciliation #ARACY #ChildrenAndYoungPeople #WalkTogether 🎥 Baby Coming You Ready?

🏫 Empowering Communities: NGO 'Unit' Expands Aid Efforts with Center in Kyiv Following the full-scale invasion, the NGO "Unit" has experienced significant growth and expanded its activities. From the outset, our collective mission has been to unite in the face of the enemy and stand together. Thanks to the support of German organizations Aktion Deutschland Hilft, TERRA TECH Förderprojekte e.V., we have been diligently working to provide aid and assistance to civilians who have suffered immensely from the ravages of military operations, such as loss of relatives, housing, disabilities, and loss of livelihoods, among other hardships 🥀 The organization's dedicated team has taken a step further by establishing a fully-fledged COMMUNITY CENTER "UNIT", specifically designed to work with war victims, families and children to address the pressing needs of the affected population. Located in Kyiv, this center serves as a well-equipped space that caters to the immediate requirements of those in need and offers a range of events and activities to facilitate the integration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) into community life. Our team of highly qualified psychologists offers individual and group counseling sessions, ensuring that the emotional and mental well-being of the beneficiaries remains a top priority. We believe in providing holistic support, recognizing that families require psychological and social assistance during these challenging times 🌱 #NGOUnit #CommunitySupport #WarVictims #KyivCenter #AidEfforts #PsychologicalSupport #FamilyAssistance #IDP #HumanitarianAid #WarRecovery #EmpoweringCommunities

When approaching an Indigenous community expect that you’ll need to properly inform, consult, involve, collaborate and empower each other to achieve success. Indigenous peoples are often asked to provide their time and are contacted by multiple institutions. Keep in mind you’ll need to: ✔Build a program or initiative with the support of the community before you begin planning. Avoid bringing a developed plan to a community or nation unless they have asked for it. ✔ Have clear intentions. ✔ Plan time for visiting and relationship-building. ✔ Understand that many First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities may have difficulty trusting non-Indigenous partners or organizations due to both historical and ongoing effects of colonial trauma. ✔ Consider reciprocity and be prepared to explain how your project or initiative benefits the community. ✔ Expect to answer questions about budget availability. #UWaterlooCoop #Coop #EDIR
