Stop delaying your holiday. Last week I completely unplugged from work and escaped to the Cornish coast with my family. But I used to really struggle to allow myself to have time off. I put this down to: 👀 FOMO – "what if an urgent enquiry comes in whilst I was away?" 🙋🏼♀️ People pleasing – "what if a client needs me, and I'm unavailable? What will they think?!" 🥵 Money – "but if I take time off, I'll lose out on £££" 🏅 Self worth – "I don't deserve a holiday, I've not worked hard enough" 🤯 Priorities – "Life is chaos anyway, I can't take a break" Over the years I've got so much better at making time for holidays on a regular basis. These days I block out all of my annual leave dates at the start of the year, and plan my client work and commitments AROUND my time off. I am non-negotiable about having several weeks of the year where I switch off completely from work – no email, no social media, no distractions. Reminder: Holidays are not a "treat" for once in a blue moon when you've made a ton of cash. They're an essential part of maintaining a healthy relationship with your physical and mental needs. Don't side-step your holiday time in favour of work. Get those flights booked! ✈️

Today is a holiday in Mexico due to the transition of the Federal Executive Power. This change in the holiday calendar was recently approved, and normal work activities are suspended, as with most official holidays. But today is a great day not to rest. Today is a day when you can put it the work with laser focus on the things you know you need to do. Don’t use these types of holidays as an excuse. Pick up that book, make that call, visit that family member, don’t skip your workout routine, review and adjust your weekly schedule, finish that plan, declutter that space that’s been driving you nuts. Only you know what you need to do to keep things moving forward. Don’t let the world’s noise distract you. Don’t allow it to make even a small dent.

#HolidayMode #LinkedInNewsEurope It can be a difficult balance, I have just come back from vacation and had that question to ask myself that very question but putting a few things in place before you go does always help. Agree with yourself you are allowed a holiday. Your company has agreed you are on Holiday, when you leave to go shut the door and keep it shut. You would not leave your house to travel and leave you front door wide open, your possessions include your own mental well being. If you are that indispensable to your company, if they are contacting you constantly while you are away they will drive you away. Your family want time with you not the company you work for. When you are away you know if you answer one message then you are agreeing to answer all messages. These messages normally start with " Hey I know you are on Holiday" the answer is Yes I am. By all means set aside 10 minutes to look at your phone,if its a must answer then answer it, but as I have done ,tell them that you will be taking the time back again when you return. Be serious with yourself enjoy the break, if you died tomorrow the world would still turn who wants to be remembered in the words. Great to work with you could always get hold of them even when they were on vacation.

A recent study showed that nearly half of U.S. employees don't use all their vacation time. Why? Fear of falling behind, losing out on opportunities, and seeming like they don't care, among other reasons. However, taking time off from work helps you disconnect, recharge, and take care of your whole health.
