I was chatting with a portfolio ops executive this week, and we touched on something we’re seeing more and more—private equity firms building specialized portfolio ops teams. It’s not just about filling general roles anymore. The trend is shifting toward hiring 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 in areas like 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗚𝗧𝗠, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆, 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗠&𝗔 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about where I can make the most impact in a rapidly changing workforce. Coming from a foundational accounting background, I’ve always found myself at the intersection of finance, systems, and operations—translating financial data into meaningful results, for users and stakeholders. But as the world of work continues to evolve, I’ve realized that my ability to bridge gaps between teams, especially in IT and finance, could be better used in a more strategic, long-term way. That’s what led me to explore Product Management—an area where I see real potential to make a difference by creating solutions that not only work for today but evolve for the future. As I remain open to where I’ve been most utilized, this feels like the right move…not just as a career step, but because the changing landscape needs strong accounting and financial insights to build more adaptable and resilient solutions.
