✈️ Understanding the Three Axes of Airplane Movement ✈️ Ever wondered how an airplane manoeuvres through the skies? It all comes down to mastering three crucial axes of movement: 1️⃣ Longitudinal Axis (Roll): This axis runs from the nose to the tail of the aircraft. Roll movements occur when the airplane tilts left or right, controlled by the ailerons. Check out this video to see how pilots use roll to bank the plane smoothly during turns! 2️⃣ Lateral Axis (Pitch): The lateral axis runs horizontally from wingtip to wingtip. Pitch movements involve raising or lowering the nose of the aircraft, controlled by the elevators. Brush up Basics! Topic 3: Coffin Corner "Coffin corner" refers to a critical aerodynamic condition at high altitudes where an aircraft's stall speed and maximum allowable speed are nearly the same. This creates a narrow margin between the two, making it challenging for the pilot to maintain controlled flight. It's a situation often encountered at high altitudes and can be particularly tricky for aircraft flying near their maximum operational ceiling.

Here are a few essential tips to remember when approaching or leaving a fixed-wing aircraft. https://lnkd.in/ed5SW3yc BlackFly is my favourite E-VTOL concept, for its low complexity. - Tandem Wings are a well proven concept, adding to cruise performance and efficiency - 8 motors and props might be a high number (28 scenarios for two-engines-out to be considered), but still manageable, and adding to redundancy - Pilot is *not* sitting in any propeller plane (a propeller blade should not be the last thing crossing your mind) - Seems difficult to hit something with the props - No tilt-wing mechanism necessary due to the tail-sitter / tandem-wing hybrid In brief: I like simple. BlackFly combines tail-sitter VTOL, STOL capabilities with tandem-wing cruise performance, without need for a heavy and complex tilt-wing mechanism. In the same time the need for a (complex and heavy) drive shaft as necessary for the V-22 Osprey or its predecessor Bell X-22 (my other fav VTOL configuration) is omitted. Might well be we will see this in a larger version as the future US Marines flagship. For on one hand they pushed the development of the V-22 Osprey (magnificent machine, I love the sound), for the fort-to-theatre requirement. On the other hand, the draw-back for civil use, being the change of the seat position from 45° upwards while boarding, to 90° upwards for VTOL, to 0° forward for cruise, is a non-issue for military use.
