#BacktotheBasics How a long-standing relationship with media helps you to mitigate a crisis? When a company regularly communicates with the media and its stakeholders, it becomes easier to control its story during a crisis. Journalists and the public are already familiar with the company’s values, practices, and mission. This pre-established foundation helps organizations navigate difficult situations with a degree of goodwill and understanding. PR is not just about reacting to bad press; it’s about building relationships, managing communication channels, and positioning a brand in a way that earns trust and credibility. #publicrelations, #pr

If your comms team pushes back on pitching something during this very crowded news cycle, they aren’t being lazy. If your comms team pushes back on using media relations as a tactic to solve a problem, they aren't being negative. They are being honest. And protective of the brand. And protective of their hard-earned media relationships. You're only as good as your last pitch. Media will start ignoring your emails if you keep sending lame story ideas, or pitching them news items unrelated to the breaking news stories of the moment.

If there’s one place where hard work doesn’t always pay off is PR 🥲 We’re third-party reliant and, as such, many factors influence how a particular story may perform. Wether an outlet picks up your story could depend on several factors: - There’s an event that your reporter is covering that week - There’s been a massive disruption in your industry that week that you could not have foreseen - The newsroom is overwhelmed with how many pitches they’ve received that week so they simply don't have capacity to cover you Maybe your story was great, and deserved coverage, but you simply got unlucky. How frustrating can that be! It has happened to me so many times 😪 The secret? Diversifying and being persistent Dust off, maybe give vent to the frustration with a colleague or your mom, and go again 💪 Don’t put all the eggs in the basket of one monthly release! Repurpose the story, leverage different angles of it, and regularly go to the media with different stories in different formats on a weekly basis. That way, the peformance of one story won’t determine wether you’re good at what you do or not The compound effect makes a difference! #prtips #publicrelations #PRprofessionals
