When making-up rotary-shouldered connections (RSCs), it is important to pay attention to the ‘seal kiss’. Check out these tips to keep in mind when making up your connections: 1)       Seals should touch each other when hand, chain, or spinner tight; if they don’t, there might be a problem with your connections and you may need to investigate. 2)       When torque is applied, the energy stresses the connections to a desired level, creating a metal-to-metal seal. If the seal faces do not come in contact when hand, chain, or spinner tight and part of the energy is used to get the seal faces together, the connections might not receive the desired stress calculated for a given torque. 3)       Ensure your connections are cut by a licensed shop with good quality control procedures, that RSCs are inspected to a recognized industry standard by a competent NDE organization, and that your team applies good make-up practices. #QAQC #Connections #RSC #OilandGas #Drilling
