Really interesting Industry and Parliament Trust breakfast discussion this morning on green homes and the "retrofit revolution". There was broad agreement that to make energy improvements to more homes there was a need to: - Look beyond individual homes at area based approaches. - Train more skilled installers, builders and advisors - Do more to help people understand the importance of retrofit and the upgrades they can make to their homes - Help increase householder trust in energy efficiency improvements and new technology - Understand how to encourage landlords to make energy efficiency improvements - Find solutions that work for listed buildings and home in conservation areas

Home Deep Energy Retrofit enthusiasts the "green" folks at SAIT need your help! Ben Hildebrandt and Dean Jones are working hard to scale up their deep energy retrofit training programs and the best part is that they want to collaborate!

Morning all. Looking for some help. Am working on a study that aims to demonstrate the feasibility of establishing a retrofit and green skills centre, to help a cluster of local authorities skill up their own residents to meet their challenges around retrofitting their housing stock, install PV, and EV charging points. Keen to talk to contractors, FE colleges, local authorities and others that have worked in this area and have some understanding of best practice. If you’re a contractor, do you struggle to source qualified retrofitters? How do we best meet PAS standards and Trustmark? Are we ready to tackle insulation retrofit at scale? If not, what will it take? Do learners turn away from green skills as a potential career? Is there a problem around release of funding that means we can’t train people at scale until we have certainty that funding will be there to pay for retrofit at scale? Enbridge Gas teamed up with Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCH) to find a pathway to Energy Savings for an upcoming affordable housing project. We filmed the workshop and I got to say a few words about the 'Savings by Design' program. Filming this case study was fun. My favourite line from the magnificent Dan Dicaire didn't make the final cut, but he said something to the effect of, "the fact that affordable housing developers are able to build ultra-efficient new buildings means the rest of construction industry should also be able to rise to new levels of energy efficiency in everything they build". I may be misremembering the exact wording, but I hope that doesn't take away from his excellent point. Because affordable housing is often the proving ground for new cost-saving and energy-saving technology or testing new energy efficiency measures. And as a result, affordable housing providers are finding out what new energy solutions and building materials work well, and other construction specialties can hopefully pick up on what the affordable housing field is doing to see cost and energy savings for their upcoming projects as well. Incidentally, I'm overseeing our affordable housing and commercial programs at the moment. And the school could save even more with energy recovery ventilation and heat pumps plus improve indoor air quality. Saving money and cleaning up the air where our kids spend most of their time is a no-brainer. All schools should work toward this.

Dear Costa del Sol homeowners: 🏘 It is in Claimbox's DNA to promote systems that improve the comfort of homeowners on the Costa, and that is what "E-gather" is all about.  💡 The Local Energy Communities, we believe that they are a pillar to alleviate the costs of maintaining a second home (or permanent), in an area already overloaded with expenses of community expenses , security, transport, etc. (where do the taxes go...?) and therefore, can and should be a solution to energy consumption bills, both private property and maintenance of gardens, common areas, sports areas, etc... The idea is that the housing estates in our urbanisations should be supplied with photovoltaic generation from small solar parks installed in the vicinity of these estates, through an association of the neighbours benefiting from them. In this area, it is much more coherent and practical than the individual installation of panels on facades, which are rarely suitable. 💚 We are currently in talks with the Costa del Sol Town Halls to try to establish cooperation and submit a proposal to the EU to obtain funds for urban initiatives for sustainability, as we believe that in the area it would be viable to reduce the general electricity consumption bill by 25%, including that consumed by the water supply and purification systems, which are very high.  We know that in other communities such as Navarra, 60 municipalities have already joined the "motor" that the Chambers of Commerce have launched to promote these communities. Let us hope that the Costa del Sol this time is not another "island", and can see that efficient systems are supported and applied from all angles. 🤞 Local Energy Communities are supported in all European, national and regional regulations within the EU.      Let's persevere...!
