Teach your child to tell you or another trusted adult if someone asks them to keep a secret. Explain to them the difference between a secret and a surprise: A surprise makes someone happy and we plan on telling people about it. When I experienced my own bout of long-term unemployment during the economic downturn of 2008/9, like many of you, I never expected to be out of work for so long and face downward mobility for the first time. This experience led me to advocate for older adults in similar situations. But advocacy is only the first step; action is crucial. NUUage is a manifestation of this action step. Caregiving for a loved one is among the most demanding, challenging, and rewarding human activities. Although children are commonly thought of as the recipients of care – rather than the givers – children all over the world participate actively in caregiving every day. The US does yet not have formal policies or support systems in place for these young people as we do for adult caregivers. Furthermore, schools do not typically identify or provide support for Caregiving Youth, which puts them at risk for academic, social, and emotional challenges. In the UK, the rights of “young carers” are recognized and upheld by national governments, caregiving advocacy groups, health care services, and schools. This is a reality. There is a shortage of child care availability making it harder to obtain adequate resources for working parents. And if you are able to find child care, it’s likely you struggle to make ends meet with the growing costs. There has to be a better solution. Last night, over 13,000 moms, advocates, and allies raised their voices to address the growing child care crisis ahead of the presidential debate. We need to hear plans for: 💰 Lowering child care costs 🫂 Making child care more accessible 🧃 Ensuring child care facilities can keep their doors open and pay their staff fairly, so they can continue providing the essential care needed by parents across the country Together, let's collectively work to inspire change. 👏🏼 #WorkingParents #Change #Politics #debate #childcare #election
