On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the freedom of enslaved African Americans, more than two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is not just a celebration of freedom; it’s a testament to the resilience and enduring spirit of African Americans. It’s a day to reflect on our history, recognize the struggles and achievements of Black communities, and commit to the ongoing fight for equality and justice.
