New rules for traveling to the United Kingdom: get to know the ETA! The ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization System) is a new requirement for people who do not need a visa to travel to the United Kingdom for tourism, being electronically linked to the passport. From 15 November 2023, Qatar residents will need to purchase ETA, and more nationalities will soon be included in the scheme. You can use the UK ETA app or apply online on the GOV.UK website for just £10. Please remember that each traveler, including children and infants, must obtain their own authorization. According to the government, the decision will be issued within 3 working days, and your ETA will be valid for 2 years. If your passport expires before this period, simply renew your travel authorization. When will you need the ETA? If you plan to visit the United Kingdom for up to 6 months for tourism or even make connections on British soil, even if you do not go through border control. And who is exempt from this requirement? Those with a British or Irish passport, permission to live, work or study in the United Kingdom or who already have an entry visa. I hope the appropriate Kenyan Authorities can explain and clarify this issue soon to help travelers. This story you are about to read, if you change the name of the traveler to mine and the cities to #melbourne, #dubai and #emirates... it will become exactly my story! This is what happened to me three weeks ago on my way to Kenya. To update the BBC story combined with my version. After waiting for more days than the Kenyan ETA website advised, I returned to Melbourne and called the #kenyan High Commissioner in #canberra to report what happened to me. I provided my visa application reference number and within a few hours got my visa approved with confusing arrival dates (date shown is in the past instead of future date... not sure how I can travel/arrive in the past). I have since written to the Kenyan High commission in Canberra and I await for a response. The BBC item mentions that 'Only citizens from countries in the East African Community (EAC) are currently exempt', this too is incorrect, #somalia is a member of the EAC and even that did not help me as I was stranded in Dubai for a few days. Interestingly the Kenya ETA online application asks the question, country of birth... and even mentioning #somali born there did not help. I hope the #abc and the #abcnews and #sbs will inform the #australian community about this problem. The #australiangovernment should update all citizens via the https://lnkd.in/gHJAb8yK about this.
