WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU, MAKES YOU STRONGER 💪💪 I've encountered the disappointment of failing an exam, and it's far from a pleasant experience, especially when you've invested significant time in preparation. During my final year at the university, I faced the setback of failing a crucial course, which prevented me from graduating alongside my peers. I felt a sense of dejection, as if I were falling behind my friends, and it was a disheartening time. I lost much of my motivation to keep going, but I had a conversation with myself, realizing that if this failure wouldn't break me, it should propel me to excel. Before that final year, my cumulative grade point average (CGPA) was a respectable 3.8, and I was content with the prospect of graduating with a second-class degree. However, this failure acted as a catalyst, driving me to study harder, not just for myself but to prove that I could do better. I decided to retake the course during the summer, and I performed exceptionally well, raising my CGPA to 4.2. This is what I ultimately graduated with, surpassing my initial expectations of a 3.8 CGPA. The key question is: Did I graduate? Yes. Did the failure make me better? Undoubtedly, yes. Fee-free TAFE enrolments surge Enrolments in fee-free TAFE across Australia have reached 300,000 since the beginning of the year, beating the original target by 120,000. Latest figures show that fee-free TAFE enrolments reached 296,107 at the end of September – well ahead of the forecast 180,000 for the full year. “We are seeing a large number of enrolments and commencements in all of our priority industries, from aged care to agriculture, construction to nursing, education to disability services,” the Minister for Skills and Training Brendan O’Connor said. “Businesses in the bush are facing significant skills shortages, so it’s great that over 105,000 Australian living in regional and remote areas have enrolled in a Fee-Free TAFE course this year.” Women make up 60% of enrolments, while there are more than 65,000 job seekers, 22,000 people with disability and more than 14,000 First Nations people. There have been 65,500 enrolments in the care sector, 26,600 in technology and digital, and 21,000 in construction. The federal government has committed a further $414 million to make another 300,000 places available from January. https://lnkd.in/gmQkKyTh

Canada. Can Experiential Learning Go Virtual? Lessons Learned From Canadian Nursing Education During the Pandemic In this research, we examine the results of interviews with nurse educators, nursing experts, and recent nurse graduates to determine how the pandemic-driven move to virtual study affected the delivery of experiential learning. Did nursing students learn the necessary skills required for safe and effective practice? How did the move to online learning affect student engagement and academic dishonesty? Were there benefits specific to virtual learning that can be incorporated into future teaching efforts?
