Want to know something horrific? If you're disabled and need Access To Work support urgently, you'd be better off quitting your job and getting a new one than applying from an existing job. Why? Access To Work prioritises those who haven't yet started a job yet. The waiting list for freelancers is well over 38 weeks now (I'm on that track), but the waiting list for those working for a company already is over 30 weeks, from reports I'm hearing. Not started your job yet? You'll be assessed in under a week. Yep. I'm serious. When we talk about the barriers for disabled people at work, this is the level of bureaucracy we are talking about. It's enraging, but it's also the reality. 1 in 4 working-age adults in the UK are disabled, and most disabilities are acquired in adulthood. As a workplace, you need to be supporting your disabled employees - the system incentivises them to leave. If you want to find out more about how to support your employees you can reach out at https://lnkd.in/gNAnQmak #AccessToWork #HR #EmployeeWellbeing #Disabled #Disability #Neurodivergent #Neurodiversity

We really care about our core values. This is how they influence the way we do business and how they benefit our clients and our candidates. *** People focused *** Social care is obviously a people-driven business. We feel strongly that ‘care’ means ‘caring’ and that a recruitment business matching the right people to the right care-giving roles can’t be about the money, it has to be about the people. Our candidates are supporting clients who have various disabilities and a wide range of issues, which is our priority. That’s what makes First for Support stand out – we put people at the heart of everything that we do. *** Responsive *** We support the needs of our clients whenever they need us, whether it’s 10 o’clock at night or 6 o’clock in the morning. We communicate quickly, clearly and efficiently with our customers and our candidates. We are always ready to deal with any problem that crops up, for example if one of our care workers has an emergency and can’t get to work. We’re quick to be responsive and resolve any issue. Fast. *** Empowering *** We respect and champion every individual’s right to be empowered to live as independently as they can, no matter what their circumstances are. We do this by providing well-trained and well-qualified care workers to specifically suit each and every one of our clients. #socialcare #residentialsupportworker #residentialchildcareworker

I've recorded this video for our IEP-subscribers, but I feel that anyone working with immigrants might benefit from this information as well. We need to focus on building bridges, not walls. The continued conversation that #volunteering is needed for "#Canadianexperience" is not just ineffective—it’s counterproductive. It reinforces barriers instead of empowering #newcomers to showcase their #skills, integrate into the #workforce and contribute their full potential. 📍And here’s a friendly reminder: asking for "Canadian experience" might be illegal depending on the job. As service providers, let’s lead by example. Let’s educate employers, challenge outdated practices, and advocate for equitable hiring standards that truly value #diversity. What are your thoughts? Let’s keep this conversation going. #risktobeculturallycurious #neverstoplearning 🌱🌱🌱 📩 If you are an immigrant, subscribe to our newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/gVj2-b9E
