I was wondering if MLO systems could be modelled like the reliability of parallel systems. Here I am considering that we have proper SNR and that the traffic of the application is much lower than the BW available for the links across two nodes. We could consider 1-Ri as the level of congestion per link, where Ri is the available airtime. Plugging those values in the model, the availability becomes more than 99%, while the highest level of availability of the best individual link is 90%. For heavily congested links, like 70% each, the availability shoot up to 65,7%! 1-(0,7 * 0,7 * 0,7) This would be definitely useful for low bandwidth, latency sensitive applications, as some public results are already showing.

Satellite development cycles are getting shorter and more compressed. But “space-qualified” still demands microwave components of the highest quality and reliability. What’s the best approach for designing low cost, COTS, space-qualified microwave components to meet evolving SATCOM industry requirements? At IMS, you can learn the answer in Narda-MITEQ’s MicroApp session, “COTS, Low Cost, Space-Qualified Microwave Components” (Wed, June 19. 10:30 – 10:45 am).
