TL:DR; I’m looking for a partner to lead Terminal7’s dev & community relations. One that groks youtube, reddit & discord and knows how to exit vim. I always wanted to be a one-man-band and as I’m tone deaf, a real band is out of the question. What’s left for me is to design, develop and market the devtool I need. That was the plan for https://terminal7.dev and it has to change. Today is the 11111111₂ day since the black sabbath and it's time to acknowledge the war drains too much of my energy. The sadness is deep and multi-layered: for the kidnapped and their families, for the fallen and for my country. It’s Israel’s darkest hour and our gov is not helping, quite the opposite. Even when one of my posts succeeded in sparking discussion on reddit and selling a few subscriptions, the energy boost lasted less than 8 hours. I was completely depleted when it was published that the hostages Yoram Metzger, Chaim Peri and Amiram Cooper and Nadav Poppelwell are dead. I’ve tried to mute the news feed, but it’s not practical nor moral. As an Israeli I feel obligated to read the stories of the fallen and listen to their grieving families. Whatsmore, as a father to a 19 year old daughter-soldier I don’t need the news feed to remember the young soldiers held by Hamas: Agam, Daniellla, Karina, Liri & Na’ama. It feels like someone installed an engine of sorrow in my stomach. Sometimes it revs faster and sometimes slower, but it’s always there, draining my energy and happiness. I have little control over this engine of sorrow so I’m looking for a partner to help me keep the revs down. A great communicator to lead Terminal7's marketing while focusing on community relations. The ideal candidate would have experience building and engaging communities, especially on platforms like YouTube, Reddit, and Discord. The position is flexible - it can be full or part time, hybrid or remote. You can be highly experienced or less so. In any case, the base salary will be modest with significant bonuses tied directly to revenue growth. If that sound right for you, please email your resume to benny@terminal7.dev

🚀 Real-Time Updates: Polling, WebSockets, and Server-Sent Events (SSE) 🚀 Hey everyone! 👋 Ever wondered how apps like WhatsApp keep you in the loop with real-time messages? Let’s break it down by comparing three cool methods: Polling, WebSockets, and Server-Sent Events (SSE). 📱✨ 1. Polling- Polling is like constantly asking, "Anything new?" every few seconds. 🕒 Example: Your WhatsApp checks the server every few seconds for new messages. Pros: - Super Simple: Easy to set up. - Universal: Works anywhere that supports HTTP. Cons: - Not Efficient: Lots of unnecessary checks. - Delay: Not instant; you might get messages a bit late. 2. WebSockets- WebSockets are like having an always-on walkie-talkie with the server. 📡 Example: Your WhatsApp stays connected to get new messages and send messages instantly. Pros: - Instant: Super quick updates. - Efficient: One connection for everything. Cons: - Tricky: More complex to set up. - Resource Heavy: Keeping connections alive can be tough on servers. 3. Server-Sent Events (SSE)- Server-Sent Events (SSE) are like getting a steady stream of updates from the server. 🌊 Example: Your WhatsApp gets new messages in real-time through SSE. Pros: - Easy Breezy: Simple to implement. - Lightweight: Less load on servers. Cons: - One-Way Street: Only good for receiving updates. - Browser Limits: Not all browsers support it perfectly. 🔄 The Best of Both Worlds Why choose when you can have the best of both? How about receiving messages with SSE and sending them with HTTP requests? 🥳 Example for WhatsApp: - Receiving Messages: Use SSE for real-time updates, so you never miss a message. - Sending Messages: Use HTTP requests for reliable message delivery. 🎉 Why This Rocks: - Real-Time Vibes: Messages arrive instantly. - Easy & Efficient: SSE for incoming, HTTP for outgoing. - Solid Reliability: HTTP ensures your messages get sent, no sweat. Mixing SSE and HTTP gives you a sweet combo of real-time updates and reliable sending. Perfect for keeping those WhatsApp chats flowing smoothly! 💬🔥 #RealTime #WebDevelopment #WebSockets #ServerSentEvents #Polling #TechFun #MessagingApps

If you're like me and always have tons of tabs open as well as multiple browser windows then you'll enjoy using the Arc browser. Arc can be customized and organized extensively. Tabs can be pinned, and “Spaces” can be created to manage tabs. The browser also offers split-screen mode. 🧨Just make sure you're pinning your tabs so that they are saved and don't disappear the next day. I have 6 different spaces created for these different categories that I use nearly every day. In parentheses are some of the tabs I have open in each to give you an idea of how I use it: ・🚀Personal: (notion, personal gmail, web apps I'm playing with) ・✨Work: (work gmail, google sheets, and other projects i'm working on) ・📖Read Later: (Hacker News and other articles I'll read during short breaks) ・💵Finances: (Empower and investment sites I use regularly) ・💬Socials: (YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok) ・🦄Personal Development: (courses i'm currently taking) It has helped organize the clutter on my laptop and create a distraction free browsing experience. Here’s a link to download Arc. It's free. You can thank me later😉 https://lnkd.in/ggYS2MV7 #techtips
