According to Feeding America and the USDA, 13 million children experienced hunger in 2022. PV Power Packs supplies children in my local school district who are food insecure with weekend bags. These weekend bags include two breakfasts, two lunches, two snacks, and two fruits. They also have a few opportunities throughout the summer to supply students with food. August is my birthday month! To celebrate this happy occasion, I am partnering with PV Power Packs. I donate to this initiative not only because it is the right thing to do, but they helped my family when we were in a tight spot. Shortly after we bought our house and moved to the area, my husband was laid off. We were in this between space: did not make enough to make ends meet, yet made too much to qualify for certain aid programs. PV Power Packs helped make sure my child was fed when I wasn't sure where the next meal was coming from. Luckily, we no longer need their services, and I love giving back. You can help multiple ways: 🍎 PV Power Packs provided a wish list for this fundraiser, and there is a donation amount that can fit any budget: https://lnkd.in/eEViwfRN 🍎 Donate a monetary amount via PayPal to donations@pvsd.org, and list PV Power Packs in the description. 🍎 Drop off food at PV Middle School East in the bins during office hours. And if you are wondering: "Besides being for Heather's birthday, why should I donate to this random community? I would rather put money back in my own community." Then do it! Research local food initiatives and food pantries, and give to them. Because the best present for me is one less kid going to bed hungry.

We are taking a small team into Western NC on the 21st. We are not going there to sell roofs. We are not going to throw tarps for a charge. We are going to clear roads, clear homes, pull out our neighbors, tarp what we can for no charge, and distribute supplies. This is not at a profit. We are not looking to create connections for future work. This isn’t a paid run. I can’t imagine a better team than Ben Spaugh & Dustin Raper to be running with. If you pray, pray for our team and those we come in contact with — and especially all those we won’t make contact with. If you don’t pray, hold our team and all of our mountain folk in your hearts. NC was not prepared for this, but we will respond, and we will rebuild. Our Amazon List — kept small for simplicity— is located here should you feel moved to donate to our trip: https://a.co/7jMd8dH We are also accepting cash donations. Any cash that isn’t used for the trip will be forwarded to Pinnacle SAR. Anything donated needs to be packed and organized on our trucks by the 19th. We are accepting TARP donations locally in Charlotte, Chapel Hill, and the Southern Wake area. If possible, new tarps are preferred since they are packaged to be much more compact than previously used tarps. #westernnc #civilianresponse #ncstrong #aspenstrong

Hello LinkedIn Family! For the last seven months I have been volunteering at the Johnson Boys and Girls Club, one of 25 Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Of the three Boys & Girls Clubs of America I have spent time at over the last 10 years, this club has the best programming I have seen. From a STEM room donated by the Denver Nuggets, to woodworking, to a Social-Emotional Learning group, this club has an incredible amount to offer. However, what I have noticed during my time is how 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗯. The children at the Johnson club are predominately black and Latinx, with a bit of Middle Eastern and Asian as well. However, nearly every book I come across features white characters. I believe it is incredibly important for children to see they are represented in all aspects of life, including what they read. 𝗧𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻. 𝗜 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟰𝟬𝟬 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀.I know this may sound crazy, but I believe with our network we can do it. If we are able to surpass this number, I will divide up the books between other Boys and Girls Clubs in the Denver area. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 If you are not logged in when you click the link below, you will have to search for the registry by typing in my full name, RORY SZETO, and finding the registry titled BOOKS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB. https://lnkd.in/eJqyUNQH There are over 400 books and collections on the registry. You will find books for ages 4-12 and young adult options as well. Most books will feature black and Latinx characters, but you will also find some Muslim and Asian characters. All books on the registry will default to being sent to my apartment and then I will bring them to the Boys and Girls Club in January 2024. You are welcome to donate as many as you would like, paperback or hardcopy, new or used. Anything helps! 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 If there is a book you know of that fits the theme and is not on the registry, feel free to include this as well or let me know that you think it should be added to the registry. Thank you SO MUCH for your help and participation, I will be sure to send updates as we go. And please, feel free to share the registry and this post with anyone you like, the more the merrier! Happy Holidays, Rory #donate #giveback #boysandgirlsclub #donatenow

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Rotary Club of Redwood City is tackling a modern-day women’s issue—Menstrual Equity. Across the United States, millions of people suffer the consequences of not being able to afford period products. This includes lost income and loss of time spent in the classroom. Menstrual Hygiene is a human right, not a privilege. The Rotary donation drive will give all products to Redwood City Public Library’s Teen Center and Project READ for distribution to the community. Consider making a donation through the Amazon wishlist. A few facts to consider (State of the Period 2021): *More than 4 in 5 students in the U.S. have either missed class time or know someone who has missed class time because they did not have access to period products *Lower-income students and students of color, particularly Latinx students) are more impacted by lack of access than white and middle-income students *23% of Latinx students have had to choose between buying period products and food/clothing *Poor menstrual hygiene promotes negative health outcome, including urinary tract infections. How can I help? Donate hygiene products such as tampons, pads and period underwear. Purchase an item on from the Amazon Wish List: https://lnkd.in/gTUH3SPZ Make a direct donation to the Rotary Club of Redwood City for the purchase of hygiene products

I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Principal Strategic Account Executive, Nonprofit and Faith-Based Organizations at Amazon Business! For the past four years, I've been a people leader at Amazon. In that time, I'm proud to have played a part in winning the largest transactions in Amazon’s worldwide history as Head of Strategic Public Sector, served as Single-Threaded Leader for COVID response, launched a net new Nonprofit vertical, served as AB's business champion to create a PPE Donations Hub and wrote a doc that led to our ‘Donations Driver’ tech solution before being asked to lead a CEO-level initiative aimed at scaling our B2B capacity. But what really matters to me at the end of the day is serving customers who serve society's most vulnerable people - people who need a helping hand, who need to know that someone cares about them, who need community and a commitment from their neighbors that when they fall down, we'll be there to lift them up. In fact, when someone asks me, "What's your favorite Amazon Leadership Principle?" I always point to one of the two new LPs added in July 2021: Success and Scale Bring Broad Responsibility. In this new role, I can't wait to innovate alongside nonprofit and faith-based customers to make their operations more efficient and create cost savings that can be re-directed to life-changing services. For those who know our Amazon culture, it's still...Day 1. How much more good can we do? Let's find out. :)

Warehouses, trucking and other aspects of the logistics industry have taken over much of the real estate in the Inland Empire in recent years, and now we know the industry has been trying to dominate local government as well. The people of Southern California are at risk of being drowned out by a corporate “community engagement” program. A leaked memo from within Amazon details the company’s public relations efforts to sway decisions in the region to serve its own interests. The plan for 2024 included strategic donations, currying favor with local politicians, methods of cultivating allies and placing of “Amazonians” within community groups and local boards like sleeper spies. Together, these are intended to overcome vocal community opposition to Amazon’s labor exploitation and union-busting tactics and the environmental harms of warehouse proliferation. The memo puts into words what environmental justice advocates have known all along: what we have traced through political donation patterns, what is facilitated by legal loopholes. The memo gives shape to invisible protagonists who have tilted city council loyalties toward outside developers instead of residents. These tactics are not illegal for the most part. But Amazon’s memo is a stark representation of the kind of manipulation that has systematically eroded community voices in places like the Inland Empire.

Did you know that a third of the Amazon’s population lacks access to clean water, despite living near one of the largest freshwater resources per capita? At #Lenovo, we believe this irony doesn’t have to exist. Two years ago, Lenovo launched a global partnership with Wine To Water, a non-profit organization committed to supporting life and dignity through the power of clean water. This past July, Lenovo sent two employees Rebekah Lentz and Clarissa Araujo; and two students, Aaron Gondo (UC Santa Cruz) and Sung Kim (Greenville Technical College), both members of the Lenovo EDU Community to the Amazon for six days to assist with clean water and disaster flood relief efforts. Earlier this month during our Love on Month of Service, Lenovo employees gathered to hear from the four volunteers about their experiences working alongside Wine to Water staff in Colombia and areas along the Amazon River. Following the panel, 600+ hybrid WW eCommerce attendees completed +100 filter builds that will positively impact the access to clean water for 10 years. The global event enabled the team to earn +800 Love On service hours. I can’t think of a better or more aligned partnership for Lenovo. As a company focused on creating #community, not only around our products but by a shared purpose, that's when we're at our best. When we're working together towards a common goal. Check out the short documentary featuring vlogs captured on Lenovo Yoga products by our trip participants. We welcome you to continue the conversation on the Lenovo EDU Community. If you're feeling inspired, I encourage you to volunteer. If you already do, please share your experience in the comments below. I'd love to hear your story and learn more about your passion for social responsibility. #SocialResponsibility #Volunteerism #CleanWater #Lenovo #WinetoWater Ajit Sivadasan, Jessica Mara, Libby Long Richards, Sydni (Collins) Behm, Monica Wolff, and Courtney Mattar

Healthy democracies are a precondition to move the needle on today's challenges, including on climate and equality. But healthy democracies cannot be taken for granted; they need nurturing and imagination, involving all parts of societies. Philanthropic organisations from across Europe are making substantial investments in this in this in different ways, yet the needs are important and the resources remain limited. This is why I am excited to join the Selection Panel for the Google.org Impact Challenge: Strengthening Democracy in Europe! This €15M initiative is an incredible opportunity for organizations across Europe to receive funding and support for projects that leverage technology and AI to strengthen democracy. I'm looking forward to seeing innovative solutions in the following areas: 1⃣ Protecting election integrity through cybersecurity and disinformation countermeasures 2⃣ Supporting voter education through digital literacy initiatives and accessible civics information 3⃣ Strengthening civic dialogue through community building and deliberative tech. If you're working on a project that aligns with these goals, please apply! 👉 https://lnkd.in/eWxnbqhs #GoogleOrgImpactChallenge
