Please Stop Shooting Police Officers It seems that there is a sort of disconnect with a very small portion of criminals on planet earth that feel shooting others in no way, shape, or form, should be defended against. Well, that is simply a false impression of how America functions when running on all cylinders. I could not be more relieved that the Chicago P.D. equipped their personnel with BWCs (Body Worn Cameras). This essential police tool allowed the public to, once again, see an individual refuse lawful orders, present a firearm, discharge said weapon at police, all the while resulting in his untimely demise. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and D.A. Kimberly Foxx gave statements that appeared to be supportive of a transparent and thorough investigation. Reading between the lines, it appeared to Mee that both Johnson and Foxx lean toward a justified shooting. In my experience, the officers involved will not face criminal prosecution nor severe departmental disciplinary action. The family, friends, and community stakeholders should prepare themselves for such an outcome. Protests (not mostly peaceful but peaceful altogether) in the United States are perfectly acceptable...until their freedoms infringe on others'. My prayers are with the deceased, his family, the police, and their families. In an alternate universe somewhere this young man simply complies with law enforcement and is arrested on a misdemeanor charge of carrying an unlawful firearm. Reports coming out are that this young man was diagnosed with a mental illness, another unfortunate but far too increasing component of violent encounter with police. With today's justice system he would have probably received little to no prison time. This was my final inspection on managing suspects and offenders before wrapping up my secondment. What a week it was! 😉 It’s encouraging to see that the early concerns we raised were acknowledged and acted upon by the force. This week, ahead of National Police Chiefs' Council & UK Home Office drink spiking intensification week, I will be hosting a @WeCops chat, where we can share learning, myth bust and understand the new spiking legislation. The National Op Lester Spiking Intensification Week will take place between 18th and 24th March 2024, coordinated by the NPCC VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) Taskforce. GDS suggests it is not just young women who report drink spiking, with 40% of the those reporting an episode in the last 12 months being male (none were gay men). Plant theft has been a massive concern for years and it only seems to be getting worse with TritonTrak making more recoveries within the last three months than ever before. This could be due to higher demand, the state of the current economy or simply, thieves becoming more innovative with their approach. With that said, It's great to see more investment going into training our police forces to better identify stolen machinery. Not only will this extra knowledge lead to more victims being reunited with their stolen assets, but it will make getting away with these thefts significantly more difficult and act as huge deterrent to the organised crime rings that make a living from stealing from people trying to make an honest living.
