Two major cases filed in one week questioning the financial condition of Athene - the second highest TSR Ratio Company we review. AT&T and Lockheed Martin pensioners independently filed suits that their company offloaded their pension liabilities (PRT) to a carrier that lacks the financial condition to make good on their pension payment promises. I guess we will find out if the court agreed with the warnings we’ve put out from the TSR Ratio for the past three plus years about high risk activities relative to surplus. Advisors sometimes are skeptics but the trial lawyers sure listen to Tom Gober. I guess people turn a blind eye until the problem falls right in their lap? It’s been disappointing honestly but then look at State Street who was the advisory consultant in the AT&T case - was their obligation to protect the pensioners or to maximize the return of pension dollars sent back to the company (reported $364 million). For all you life and annuity carriers out there … open your books - offshore secrecy domiciles (and US based captives) aren’t going to be tolerated - we are happy to help and adjust your TSR Ratio accordingly.
