The Transformation Gallery Open Call I Regret To Inform You That... About 15 years ago I decided after countless rejection letters to exhibit them as my latest art piece. It felt as a relief and a victory at the same time, taking away the frustration of trying to get an exhibition, a job, grant or to get into a university. The act of creating art is inherently risky and vulnerable. Artists pour their thoughts, emotions, and perspectives into their work, hoping to communicate something meaningful to their audience. When this communication is met with rejection, it can initially feel like a denial of the artist's value or the worth of their work. Rejection serves as a critical reminder of the subjective nature of art. What one person or institution might reject, another might celebrate. This subjectivity is a fundamental aspect of art's beauty, allowing for a diverse range of expressions, interpretations, and values. Each rejection letter can, therefore, be seen as a reinforcement of art's intrinsic diversity, encouraging artists to seek the audience that resonates with their work. For the exhibition I Regret to Inform You That... I invite artists to send in their rejection letters to celebrate their victory over failure. *Every Rejection letter will be exhibited* https://lnkd.in/e__dNrBP Opening 4th of April 18:00 - 21:00 4th of April - 14th of April Friday - Sunday 13:00 - 18:00

"Art is supposed to make you feel things, and come away thinking about the world a little differently. What better way to transmit a political message? The artists in the show communicate their point of view through beauty and craftsmanship. Good art may or may not be political, but this political art certainly is good." Read the New Haven Independent's full review of "Everything is Political" below, and check out the collection rotation while it's on view through mid-November!

Public art galleries should be contested public spaces where social hierarchies are questioned and subverted. They should present a range of different perspectives and beliefs where dominant discourses can be critiqued by presenting competing voices and exhibiting diverse points of view. The concept of dialogue has been tested in several public cultural institutions where art galleries as spaces for free artistic expression and diversity of voices has been challenged without any public discourse. Public art galleries can better serve their mandates by providing opportunities for engagement with all communities that become conscious of culture as a public resource. Public art galleries are ideal places where the concepts of dialogic answerability and unfinalizability can be explored through collaborative and participatory forms od art practice. Artists who make use of dialogue in their practices help reveal diverse ways of seeing the world and offer multiple versions of conflicted histories. This is not a matter of diversity for its own sake, but works with notions of ethical answerability, unfinalizability and heteroglossia that offer communities opportunities to build a culture that is meaningful to them and all of society. At the heart of these practices is the fundamental principle that artmaking is a social process that is inherently social and collective. Dialogical theory and practice can help public art galleries transform themselves into public spheres that allow disenfranchised voices to challenge dominant narratives and social structures, using creative forms of dialogue to instigate conscious change from below. The valorization of community-based ways of knowing can help transform cultural institutions into spaces of inclusion, emancipation, and change. In the words of Paulo Freire, ‘consciousness evolves through voice and in dialogue with others, and as learners begin to see themselves as knowers in relation to the world, and as part of an evolving, changing world’ (1970: 40). Freire developed a critical, self-reflexive model of pedagogy that makes learning into an ongoing process of transformation. The use of dialogue in artistic practices invites community participation and develops new opportunities for all communities to become engaged with contemporary visual art and reinvent the progressive mandates of public art institutions.
