Batman and Leadership Leadership is an inside job. It starts inside with your personal leadership traits, such as integrity, trust, competence, and authenticity – all of which are aspects of personal reliability. You cannot expect your team to be reliable (or any other trait for that matter) if you are not being reliable. Since reliability, like leadership, is built from the inside out, the most important question a leader should ask is, “How reliable am I?” To coach for reliable performance, you must first be personally reliable. https://lnkd.in/dn4qs88J

Great discussions with CNO at NNOA/ANSO. She shared 6 things that she has distilled into her “recipe” for good leadership (paraphrased but close): 1. Integrity - leadership is based on trust. 2. People matter most. 3. Teamwork is key to success. 4. Warfighting Excellence is everything. 5. Safety - break the error chain, speak up. 6. Attitude - a winning mindset is the game changer. She closed with a quote from Admiral Nimitz: “Learn all you can, do your best, don’t worry about what you can’t control” Wise words!

What does integrity mean to you as a leader? At Vistage, we believe that integrity is the cornerstone of effective leadership. It's about more than just honesty; it encompasses a steadfast commitment to doing the right thing, even when it's difficult. As leaders, our actions set the tone for our entire organisation. Integrity means consistently aligning your decisions with your values, building trust through transparency, and fostering an environment where accountability and ethical behaviour are paramount. It's about creating a culture where team members feel confident that their leaders are committed to fairness and principled actions. In today’s complex business landscape, integrity is not just an admirable trait—it's a vital one. Leaders who prioritise integrity inspire loyalty, drive sustainable success, and ultimately, make a positive impact on their communities and industries. Leadership is not so much the exercise of power itself as the empowerment of others! "Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus" Leadership is not about control But about the power to make others whole. Empowering others is the key To unlocking their potential and setting them free. It's about giving them the tools they need To succeed in their work and take the lead. It's about trusting them to do what's right And supporting them through the darkest night. Leadership is not about being on top But helping others reach the mountaintop. It's about inspiring them to be their best And creating a culture where they can rest. So let us all strive to be empowering leaders Who lift up others and help them achieve their futures. For when we do, we'll create a bright world full of people who shine with their light.

👉 Leadership is not a personality type. There, I said it. Yes, there are personalities that are charismatic, driven, pioneering and visionary. Yes, these personalities instinctively strategise and influence, but are they necessarily Kings or Queens? → Leadership is always contextual. Which means you need the right personality for the right task. Of course they also need to have the necessary skills. Rassie understood this with Siya Kolisi. He recognised the personality. He grew the skills. Be careful assuming that the most driven person, or the most influential or the most responsible person in your organisation should be King or Queen.
