Working in Custodial, if I were asked what is my strongest skill, i would respond that time management happens to be my strongest. When I began in my position, I became aware of how much I pay attention to detail, I was quite shocked. I was receiving responses of how good I was doing and how pleased everyone was with my work and that made me feel so proud. After a while, I started noticing that I wasn’t completing tasks that were on my planner for the day and I started to feel that I was just too slow and needed to step up my game. I sat aside one half of my day on a day that wasn’t quite as busy, and I began to challenge myself on the areas that I needed work. I began to focus on my speed.. I set a stopwatch and began in the biggest restroom. I performed as I normally would and when I was done, I wasn’t pleased with my timing. 30 minutes!!! 6 stalls, 5 sinks, 5 mirrors, 9 trash cans…. I had to do more in less time if I were to complete 4 restrooms in 60 minutes. ( 1 hr before students arrive in the mornings.) I began to investigate what takes me the longest, what takes me the least amount of time… I was looking at momentum and all the areas in which I could complete this task in 15 minutes. It took me close to 4 months to begin to grow in my time management skill. I learned that a good deep cleaning can be maintained through out the week. I learned to set aside time for deep cleaning once a week and that’s still maintaining the deep clean before that one. I took what I learned and used it in other areas besides the restrooms.. that skill has helped me in so many areas even when working with a team. Custodial maintenance is more than just cleaning and garbage…. There is so much we can learn about ourselves when we challenge our skills and overcome obstacles of our position. Now, 3 years in, I look at every task as a challenge, An opportunity to strengthen my skills and learn. I often have the opportunity to pass down knowledge to those who are making their entrance into custodial. Keep learning, keep growing and keep sharing.

Information Systems Security Officer | Cybersecurity Specialist, RMF proficient | Security+| Over 25 years in the Security Community
Cryptologic Technician Administration. Babysitter. Hostess. Fast food worker. Receptionist. Help desk technician. Executive Admin Assistant. Retail Worker. Information Systems Security Officer. This is a list of most of the jobs I’ve had, some I loved, some were hard, and some I hated. Some I was treated poorly, and some were amazing and fun. They all taught me life-long lessons (in some cases, what not to do and how not to treat people). It’s my journey and why I’m here today. This post is inspired by Kristin Queen of Wipes Olson-Kott . See her original post in the comments. These are her inspiring words, we should all take note: “Don’t forget where you came from. Don’t forget what you went through. Don’t forget where you’re going. Don’t forget who helped you along the way. Don’t forget to help others get there. Don’t forget to tip. “ What is your hashtag #careerjourney?

Managing Director at TNA Building Services Ltd -- Providing Building maintenance solutions to the block management, social housing and commercial sectors, operating across the country 24 hours a day.
In recent conversations one of the main points of interest is our on site caretaker/handyman service. We offer our clients a skilled multi trader for a set period of time, usually around 3 hours a week or every other week. It will be the same person every time on the same day at the same time, to give the visibility and reassurance to residents. During their time on site the operative can pretty much do anything but typical tasks would be- ✔️FA bell test, EML flick test ✔️General repairs to doors, door closers, walls etc ✔️Changing light bulbs ✔️Lift line testing ✔️Weeding and sweeping external areas ✔️General building checks We also offer a full cleaning service which can also be added on for internal areas. My combining a number of services the client benefits from a reduction in overall spend when compared to individual call outs. Jobs can be logged and carried out during the handyman hours rather than sending a person on an ad hoc basis. The residents get to see a regular face on site who take ownership of their site. This is whats known as a win, win, win, being proactive rather than reactive and saving money at the same time. Want to know more, message me for a chat. #blockmanagement #reactivemaintenance #buildingservices #propertymanagement #plannedmaintenance #buildingmaintenance

When it comes to occupational passions I have two, Interpersonal Communication and Janitorial. For the longest time of being either a janitor or custodian was a waste of my Bachelors degree in Communications. But it has become a useful blessing of giving a blessing of my time and a listening ear to others. Friends and family tell me I should be doing something else. I've tried other careers. I always go back to my first occupational love. Janitorial. it is truly a gift from God to be a Custodian at Gonzaga. It takes a special calling to be a custodian. We custodians take care in making sure students, staff and faculty have a safe and pleasant environment to be in. I think janitorial or custodial work would be a good therapy and skill program for many. Those who may have left the work force because of past trauma or anxiety can find janitorial to be a great transition into the work force. There is a lot to learn in janitorial. There's basic cleaning, proper ways of disposing and recycling of waste. There's learning different cleaning chemicals. There's becoming skilled in all the different equipment from vacuums to ride on scrubbers. There is strengthening memory skills. There is developing time management skills and improving social skills in a patient way. At times it may even require getting inventive. If anyone is interested in my idea of starting a janitorial skill therapy program or something similar let me know. Thank you.

Housework. I absolutely hate it. If I won the lottery I would absolutely have a housekeeper, even if there is just me! ( Plus Sidney & Beth ). My least favourite chore is washing up. I'd even rather clean windows than wash the pots or load the dishwasher. It's just so tedious & never ending. What is your least favourite household job & why❓️❓️ #educationrecruitment #Rec2Rec #recruitmentconsultant

Commercial cleaning services - Hampshire & Sussex | Offices, School Cleaning, Medical Practice Cleaning, Showroom Cleaning | Helping premises managers keep their workplace clean and people happy | GPS tracked shifts
“A TEN percent miss rate!” That is, their business model is that expect to miss in ONE in TEN cleans at their clients due to sickness, holiday or role vacancies. This was told to me recently in person by an area manager at a national cleaning contractor. To me, that is CRAZY! This means they expect to miss one clean every two weeks at a client having daily cleaning services by a single cleaner, or run one person down with teams of 10+ every single day! This is the reality sometimes when trusting a national contractor with your services, where they have very little, if any, regional support staff close to your physical workplace. At Green Fox Cleaning, our ongoing recruitment of mobile support cleaners and strategic local support staff, and Managers and Directors at all levels and all our offices rolling their sleeves up to get stuck in is another reason clients put their trust in us. We also only operate within a close radius of our regional offices, ensuring we have access to the best local talent when recruiting, and are never far away when you need us! #clientsatisfaction #contractcleaning
