The 16th Street Mall is one of our city’s most vital pedestrian and transit connectors and important public spaces, and stewarding its successful future is a key priority for many stakeholders. The Mall is undergoing a $150 million redesign, which will include relocating the bus transit lanes to the center, expanding sidewalks for walking, more café seating and programming. These updates are designed to enhance the Mall experience while improving pedestrian safety and mobility.  

📢The recent signing of the Contract for Funding for Phase II of the Gobbins is a “major step forward” in realising the ambitious vision for the future of The Gobbins, according to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. 📝   Representatives from the Department for the Economy and Tourism NI joined Mid and East Antrim Mayor Alderman Beth Adger MBE, Elected Members, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Interim Chief Executive Valerie Watts and other stakeholders to note the Contract for Funding (CfF) which will officially unlock a £13.6m investment in The Gobbins Phase II.   The Gobbins Phase II is one of three initiatives that Mid and East Antrim will benefit from the Belfast Region City Deal - seeing an investment in excess of £80 million in the Borough.   The Gobbins Phase II will see a range of exciting additions to what has become one of Northern Ireland’s most popular visitor attractions. As I took my daughter to the local museum, my mind wandered to the city's nickname, the City of Tribes-the 14 merchant families that dominated the city's political, commercial, and social life in the past. Just like Galway, aren't we all a city of tribes in our own right? 🤔 We each have our own unique circles—our tribes. But amidst the hustle and bustle of life, it's crucial to recognise the dynamics at play within our tribes. 👥 We gravitate towards those who share our values, interests and backgrounds. Our tribe gives us a sense of belonging and identity. We fiercely protect and take pride in our tribe. ⛓ Forces frequently threaten our tribes from within by attempting to undermine trust. Misunderstandings, conflicts, and insecurities can strain the bonds that unite us. 🤝 At the same time, our tribes must remain outward-looking and welcome new members with open arms. The cross-pollination of diverse perspectives, skills, and experiences allows our tribes to grow and thrive. ⛵ Some may journey solo for a period, exploring new horizons. But Galway's hopeful message is that no matter how long you roam, you can always return to rejoin your tribe.
