In May, the Supreme Court made it easier for corrupt politicians to manipulate our elections. 🚨 In a shocking 6-3 decision, the court ruled that states can create racially gerrymandered maps as long as they claim it's for partisan purposes. This is a direct attack on voters of color and our democracy. We need to take action NOW. Join us in the fight to stop gerrymandering and demand fair elections! Only together, can make a difference. ✊ https://lnkd.in/erP9Y7qS #Gerrymandering #FairElections #PoliticalReform #Activism #PowerToThePeople #IndependentRedistricting #FightForDemocracy

Local government officials hold a crucial responsibility to their communities, and it goes beyond just winning elections. They are the frontline advocates for the needs, concerns, and aspirations of their constituents. In our democracy, listening to the people and actively working to address their issues is not a choice, but a duty. Their role is to bridge the gap between citizens and policy, ensuring that local governance is both responsive and responsible. 🏛️🤝🗳️ #CommunityFirst #LocalLeadership #EngageAndServe

Last week’s PCC elections in England and Wales were a combination of predictable wins, surprise victories and tight contests, against the backdrop of a low turnout and minimal media coverage; Policing Insight’s Academic Editor Dr Carina O'Reilly takes a closer look at the policy and political implications of the results, and whether this year’s outcomes could affect campaigning techniques and voting intentions in future PCC elections. ❝As we’ve seen with Sadiq Khan in London, the enhanced legitimacy of a directly elected big city mayor can lead to a willingness to be much more robust in policing policy, and to take the role of PCC well into the political arena.❞ ❝Vocal rural councillors opposing any policy that sees resources concentrated in urban areas – such as increasing neighbourhood officers – could make it an uncomfortable term for some of Labour’s new PCCs.❞ ❝The change from the supplementary vote to the first past the post process likely saved the bacon of several incumbents, as the PCC vote was split (sometimes five ways), and there is not yet any sign of systematic tactical voting in PCC elections.❞ https://lnkd.in/duNxY6bF #lawenforcement #policing #police #governance #politics
