Community connection is key! I recently had the pleasure of joining city council members and local law enforcement officers from Hermosa Police Department for one of their monthly meet-and-greets at Gitana in Hermosa Beach. Here's why these gatherings matter: Fostering Trust: Building relationships with our officers face-to-face helps create a sense of trust and security in our neighborhood. Promoting Collaboration: Coming together allows us to collaborate on solutions to community concerns, making our area even better. Empowering Voices: Encouraging residents to share their thoughts and ideas empowers them to be active participants in shaping our community's future. Getting involved in the community isn't just about giving back; it's about staying informed and becoming an expert in the local market for my clients. Attending events like these are a great opportunity to connect with fellow residents, understand local concerns, and stay ahead of market trends. How do you stay engaged with your community as a local professional? #realestate #communityengagement #businessstrategy

📣 Calling all Spring Hill (and surrounding neighborhoods) North Siders! Join us NEXT WEEK as kick off the full series of 2024 “City in the Streets!” Last year, over 1,600 residents attended the events, resulting in over 40 service requests, and several capital improvements being fulfilled. The administration considers a variety of factors when determining locations for the City in the Streets initiative such as designation by Allegheny County as a High or Extreme Needs Community and volume of 311 reports. The initiative was birthed out of Mayor Ed Gainey’s Plan for Peace, prioritizing areas that experience a higher rate of crime as well. With high and extreme-need communities being less likely to utilize systems like 311, in-person engagements like this are critical. Representatives from every city department and select authorities are coming directly to residents in a block party setting in Spring Hill. This event will include free food, community vendors, activities for kids, and the following departments tabling to provide resources, information about their work, and intake on-site requests for service: Department of City Planning Department of Innovation and Performance Department of Mobility and Infrastructure Department of Public Works Department of Permits, Licenses, and Inspections Department of Public Safety Department of Human Resources and Civil Services Department of Parks and Recreation Mayor's Office, including Office of Neighborhood Services Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs Office of Equal Protection Office of Management and Budget Office of Municipal Investigations Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh #pittsburgh #engagement #CITS #constituentservices #localgovernment

Isaac Yablo is Senior Advisor for Community Safety for the City of Boston. He moves seamlessly across scales, from city-wide strategy to on-scene response. In his work, we watched how well Isaac sees people, where they are coming from, and the structures that surround them: the not visible things that are driving visible behaviors. Isaac has shown us what it can mean to be seen. DYK, Mutual Housing residents are linked with #affordablehousing advocacy opportunities both locally and statewide? Results from a consumer survey by NeighborWorks America, highlight the disconnect many are feeling with policymakers, with 75% feeling left out of the #affordablehousing conversation. In the spirit of #neighborworksweek, we’re celebrating the opportunities for connection we have successfully made this year between residents and State Legislators, California Housing and Community Development Department leaders, the State Treasurer, Sacramento Mayor, and other local elected officials. As residents are able to share their lived experiences, they are able to provide keen insights for decision makers and help to inform their policy choices surrounding severe housing shortage challenges. https://lnkd.in/giN72QwX

📢 Big news for housing justice: We are proud to have funded efforts to introduce a Right to Counsel program in Kansas City, ensuring that more residents have access to legal representation during eviction proceedings — ultimately helping more people stay housed and healthy. With the federal government now making resources available to expand these vital programs, we are optimistic that more communities will receive the support they need — especially as states like Missouri are making eviction moratoriums illegal. (Draft) Inverclyde Community Justice Outcomes Improvement Plan 2024 Last week Inverclyde Community Justice Partnership published its draft Community Justice Outcomes Improvement Plan. This plan initially commenced following publication of the National Strategy for Community Justice in 2022 and developed throughout 2023. The CJOIP has five priority outcomes reflecting the four nationally determined outcomes and a locally determined outcome around housing and homelessness outcomes for those in the justice system. The document outlines progress from the previous CJOIP published in 2015, an analysis of community justice locally and action underway by the Partnership to meet the priority aims. Regarding the priority outcomes a range of proposed actions are included over the next few years. The document has now moved into an engagement phase until mid-March. There is a consultation survey for groups and individuals locally, a planned week of engagement with the third sector, engagement with individuals who have lived/living experience of the justice system and a number of staff engagement sessions from across the Partnership and beyond. The draft CJOIP and consultation survey are available via https://lnkd.in/ep_DHFH9 EDITED COMMENT. The idea of this post is to generate discussion if anyone wants to ask/comment/respond to anything.
