Chief Administrative Officer | Non Profit Leadership | Government Executive | Board Member | Executive Coach
I recently spoke with Government Executive about modernizing hiring practices in public service, specifically in the AI domain. I commend the efforts made by agencies to attract tech talent. The concept of 'I'm hiring you for a part of your career' resonates with me. This approach brings energy and simplifies the recruitment process. Individuals may not commit to a long-term federal service, but they are drawn to contributing to cutting-edge government policy implementation. I offer we need to be open to this type of proposition. Careers are no longer a straight line but there are many attracted to public service or mission oriented work as part of their journey. I use OSINT to investigate security risks and protect financial organizations | Security Analyst for FIS
How far do you go when researching a company before hitting "Apply"? 🕵🏽 A family member recently mentioned they were considering a full-time position with a small marketing firm. After learning a few key details about the company—its name, the position, and what they’d uncovered during their research—I decided to dig a bit deeper myself. I started with some basic OSINT techniques by gathering publicly available information about the company, such as its products and services, scale, founding date, leadership team, job listings, and online reviews. On the company’s website, I noticed they had uploaded images of their employees, which included both first and last names. With that information, I searched county court records and quickly discovered details about these individuals, such as traffic violations, domestic disputes, and other pending criminal cases. I shared these findings with my family member. It turned out that the company had only been recently established by these individuals. I also found that after interviewing, many new hires ended up with responsibilities completely different from what they were initially hired for, causing them to leave soon after (bait-and-switch). After reviewing all the information, my family member ultimately decided to pass on the opportunity. How far do you go in researching a company before hitting "Apply"? Would these findings have influenced your decision, or would you have overlooked them? #OSINT

Securities Analyst open to a new role in investment management | CLO and ABS relative value, analytics, cashflow modelling, stress testing, surveillance and investor reporting
I would agree that the automated screening process is a wasted opportunity to promote the company brand and engage with candidates who may be future customers. I also wonder whether the screening algorithms are regularly fine tuned - with feedback say from a human post hiring audit of all applications received ( for a random selection of advertised jobs) to see if any potential job applications were rejected too soon. Would be an interesting ML classification project if the data requirements were properly identified and collected. #jobs #interviewscreening #hiring

“The Job Scam Report” on Substack | "The Voice of Job Seekers" | I hack & reimagine the modern job search | Freelance Careers Writer | Thinker | Speaker | Features: Forbes, Business Insider, Fast Co., LinkedIn News | ΦΒΣ
Newsflash: For years, there are a select few to maintain a steady and seamless flow of jobs. Their main strategy: They research companies to know what they want, and go after the ones they want. Today, researching companies means to avoid the fake ones. Researching will save you days and weeks of time unraveling what happened. You must inquire of every recruiter they are the real deal. Be deeply skeptical of callers who contact you "out of the blue." Random text messages are dangerous. Don't give them the time of day. According to the Better Business Bureau's Scam Tracker, one victim was out of more than $200K. There's probably more out of the 32,000+ examples listed. Researching every company should be a normality, not just to stand out. You might already stand out for all the wrong reasons.

Sorting through budgets and other meeting documents is part of a journalist's job. You can't leave it to AI to have insight into why something has shifted in a budget line, or why a particular council member is introducing a particular ordinance to a particular committee, or to have institutional knowledge that shines light on the real story. This isn't solving a problem, but public meetings are often the first place non-innovators turn because it's low-hanging fruit that could be better picked by training reporters to be better at that part of the job. #Journalism
For the last couple months I’ve been collaborating with the awesome team at Civic News Company. We’ve been thinking through ways that LLMs can help journalists more easily find key information in public meetings and reports — when county election boards set the rules for mail-in ballots, or local school boards decide how to spend limited tax dollars, most members of the public aren’t present. Government agencies produce tons of public documents in budgets, reports, and written policies. But it’s hard to sort through all this information and find notable decisions and discussions. LLMs can be a great solution to that problem. We’re looking for an engineer to help on a 3 month project to build some web tools that will empower journalists to easily find critical information in their areas. I think this is a really exciting opportunity to use this new technology to contribute to transparency in local governance and support informed citizenship.
