Go for a walk. It'll do your community a lot of good. "There is nothing more memorable and impactful than experiencing our communities with each other on foot. Something as simple as a walk allows us to have a conversation informed by the existing conditions, as well as letting us illustrate items like the economic benefits of pedestrian-friendly designs to local officials. Walking audits also help reveal how urban design impacts daily life and community sustainability. A walking audit is the easiest and most powerful public engagement tool that any community can use to make their streets safer." https://lnkd.in/gY7UKvDP

What an invigorating morning it was at the #Edcon conference! Our team had the honor of joining forces with the insightful Brett Waller and the dedicated members of the Seattle Police Department for a panel discussion on a cause dear to us all: Community Safety. In our conversation, we delved into ways to enhance the safety of our residential communities. We discussed a range of strategies, brought our collective knowledge to the table, and concentrated on the newest methods, technologies, and resources. Our aim was to bolster neighborhood safety, working hand in hand with community partners and leveraging available resources. However, this is merely the beginning of a much larger conversation. We believe in the power of community and collective wisdom. So, we're curious: What are your best tips for fostering safety in multifamily communities? Share your strategies and experiences below. Let’s continue the dialogue and together, create safer, more secure neighborhoods. #CommunitySafety #SafetyFirst #multifamily Washington Multi-Family Housing Association

📢 Understanding the Impact of Community Engagement on Zoning Changes The involvement of local communities in zoning discussions is not only beneficial; it's transformative. Recent studies underscore the power of public participation in shaping zoning laws that reflect the community's real needs and aspirations. For instance, a notable case in Boulder, Colorado, demonstrated how community engagement led to the revision of residential zoning laws to allow for more affordable housing options. After extensive public workshops and meetings, the city saw a 15% increase in permits for affordable housing units within two years (Source: Boulder Housing Reports, 2023). Similarly, in Austin, Texas, community feedback was integral to the adoption of the "Affordability Unlocked" program, which relaxed certain zoning restrictions and increased the development of affordable housing by 20% compared to previous years (Source: City of Austin Housing & Planning Department, 2022). These examples highlight the critical role that engaged citizens play in zoning processes. By actively participating in city planning meetings, submitting comments, and collaborating with local government bodies, communities can directly influence the development policies that affect their daily lives. Let's keep the momentum going. Engage, discuss, and make your voice heard! #CommunityEngagement #UrbanPlanning #ZoningChanges #PublicParticipation
