What a wonderful way to kick off Black History Month - in Mississippi at an event and gathering with the Food Justice Collaborative. Love in full-on display! Sitting with the beautiful work of so many, including Cindy Ayers Elliott (Foot Print Farm and Farmers Hands Market) and these words from Dr. Mary Coleman (Senior Vice President and CEO of EMPath, a nonprofit that disrupts #poverty through direct services, advocacy, research, and a global learning network): “For me, the guard rail in conversations about economic mobility has everything to do with opportunity and everything to do with perception. How do we perceive ourselves and how do we perceive others? “If we perceive others as being unworthy, they don't get any resources. If others perceive themselves as being unworthy, they get fewer resources than they deserve And it happens all the time. So public policy is hugely important, because it can potentially self-correct some of that." Also these words of reflection on and guidance from “local people” of the Civil Rights Movement from Jackson-based historian and and activist Mr. Frank Figgers: “They did what they could, with what they had, where they were.” See more about the MS Food Justice Collaborative here (and zoom in on those core values in the graphic below) - https://msfoodjustice.ncat.organize
