State boarding schools: an affordable, quality education option For families seeking boarding school, but find traditional private schools cost-prohibitive, state boarding schools in the UK present an appealing choice. With tuition funded by the government, fees only cover room and board, ranging £12K-18K per year - a fraction of private schools'. State boarding schools originated to serve military families, diplomats, and expats, but now also accommodate families needing care while working. They offer weekly or full boarding for students aged 11 upwards, sometimes with sixth form. With over 30 state boarding schools in the UK, spots are limited. Admissions prioritize UK residents. Schools are often partially selective. When researching: - Consider distance for pickups/events - Scrutinize activities/facilities - Ensure a critical mass of same-age boarders - If selective, can your child meet the academic bar? - Does your child want to board? Focus less on fancy facilities, more on the friendly "feeling." Are students enthusiastic? Is the environment nurturing, even if a bit rough around the edges? State boarding combines quality instruction, supportive community and affordability. For the right student, it can be life-changing. #boardinglife #stateboarding #affordableschools #communityfeeling #hiddengems

Do you know about the Selective Service System? For nearly all male U.S. citizens, when you register with the Selective Service, you're helping ensure a secure future for your community and the United States of America. As required by Federal Law, the Selective Service registration is the first part of a fair and equitable system that, if appointed by the President and Congress, would provide personnel to the Department of Defense and an Alternative Service Program for conscientious objectors. If you're a young man registered between the ages of 18-25, you remain eligible for jobs, state-based student aid in 31 states, Federally-funded job training, and U.S. citizenship for immigrant men. Learn more and register here: https://www.sss.gov/ Note: if you're a man over the age of 26, it's too late to register. However, if you have failed to register before 26 and are seeking benefits associated with Selective Service registration, click this link: https://lnkd.in/ee7vyf9R #ConnectionsWork #ConnectionsWorkRocks #SelectiveService #UnitedStates

This is just a tip of the iceberg! Every year we have new teachers graduating with Diplomas and Degrees from both our Teachers college and universities throughout PNG end up facing similar issue. When you ask most off them (new teachers) who are now on the ALESCO payroll their feedback would be similar to this one; they have spent whopping amount of money just to get a file number and being put on payroll. This practice is now becoming norm by the education officers here at Department of Education Headquarters - Waigani as well as those serving at the Provincial Education offices throughout PNG. The journey to get onboard the ALESCO Payroll system by the teachers is really an headache and most have given up along the way pursuing it. This further leads to shortage of teachers and imbalance in ratio for one teacher as compared to students which further results in drop in the standard of education in PNG. Its about time the Minister and Secretary concerned must look into this and penalize those corrupt officers who are practicing this. Put them off the payroll and let them pay the price for their own stupidity! #justiceforourTeachers
A long suffering teacher, who has never received her pay for the past three years, yesterday dropped a bombshell on unscrupulous education officers in the heart of Waigani’s education headquarters who are swindling this single mother serving in rural East Sepik. "The Government has agreed to fund a $4.4 billion package to settle teachers’ and principals’ agreements. It comes after an arbitration panel recommended secondary teachers get a 14.5 per cent pay rise spread over three instalments. Education Minister Jan Tinetti announced today the Government had accepted the recommendation and had offered to increase secondary teachers’ base salaries by 14.5 per cent by December 2024 - close to $700 million more than had been budgeted."
