Most would agree that change communications in the first 100 days following a transaction is critical. But can it work without executive alignment? Niki St Pierre, MPA/MBA dives into this question in our recent Catalant Quarterly, explaining why the key to success in change communications is decisive leadership from the CEO and executive team. She sheds light on the importance of strategic communication during this pivotal time and offers practical tips and best practices to ensure alignment, transparency, and engagement across an organization. Global Director of Communications and Marketing | Building Brand Awareness and Reputation; Communications Strategy; Marketing Strategy
Finally, some good news for #communications professionals! A recent study (https://lnkd.in/eiExT-S4) by media monitoring platform Memo has revealed that more comms teams are reporting directly to the CEO in recognition of their importance as a strategic partner, not just an administrative centre. Done properly, communications strategy drives key business metrics across multiple functions. With responsibilities increasingly expanding beyond PR and media relations to include corporate affairs, ESG, IR, executive comms, thought-leadership, brand and social media (to mention a few), connecting them together with a consistent approach and clear messaging is critical. Hiding comms under marketing (where it is so often found) and sales teams (yes, it really does happen!) is yesterday’s approach. #communications #communicationsstrategy #leadership #commsjobs #opentowork

Here's everything I've learned about leadership communications after working in large organizations for 30+ years. Employees only want to know 3 things about their leaders: 1. Do they know what they're doing? 2. Do they know and appreciate what everyone else is doing? 3. Are they proud to be leading the organization? Firing off memos and videos and teeing up presentations where your leaders pontificate about strategic priorities will be a non-starter for most, if not all, of your employees. Instead, have your leader sing the praises of employees who advance those strategic priorities. Have them tell stories about employees who make a difference. Your job as a comms pro is to find those stories for your leaders. No one wants a story about strategic priorities, projects and plans - people want stories about interesting and inspiring people. The trick is to have your leaders only tell stories about employees who are decent humans. Remember that the worst behaviors that your leader tolerates in others - or demonstrate themselves - become your organization's core values. So choose wisely and then start having your leaders tell stories that showcase and thank employees who make a difference.

The media eco-system is extremely dynamic. As an agency leader, or anyone who is preparing the next gen for success in PR, if you're not personally invested through pitching and placing stories, it's impossible to instruct others effectively. I'm learning that great leadership in media relations is becoming increasingly rare (which is creating major gaps in the industry, and making everyone's lives more difficult: journalists, and PR pros). One of the reasons for this is because leaders are increasingly embroiled in "managing" accounts and clients, but doing less in media relations (despite the fact that this is integral to ROI). If you're working at an agency, and your leadership team isn't truly teaching by example, it may be doing more harm than good for your career: make sure you're seeking out professional mentors who are in it to win it, and personally doing the work. #mediarelations #publicrelations #leadership
