IS PROTEGE CAN BE COUNTED AS A JOB EXPERIENCE? Hi Connections. It's been two months from my last post. How are you guys doing? Hope you are doing just fine. The topic and thoughts I want to share in this post is: "Is Protege can be counted as a job experience?" In my personal opinion, Protege should be counted as a job experience. It is some kind of program as an initiative from the government to help youths to get a job and one of the way to start our career. I started to join construction industry as a Protege. And I am really grateful to be a Protege for 8 months in a right company because I have been treated as a staff, not a Protege. I can explore a lot of things with no limitations set by my company. It's actually upset me down when some of the recruitment teams said Protege cannot be counted as an experience. Not to be exaggerating, but I can say I am able to do most of the work as what my superior did. For instance, i) Preparing and monitoring submission of material approval and method statement for all trade (i.e., Arch, C&S, M&E, ICT). ii) Undertake inspection with the consultants on material, post-concreting, and etc. iii) Propose rectification works for NCP closure. iv) Monitoring and witnessing various of testing such as MLT, PDA, Compressive Strength, Rebar Testing and etc. v) Present the monthly QAQC report to the clients. vi) Liaise with the engineers, consultants, clients and suppliers on the issues arise and to smoothen the work at site. As long as the Protege knows how to utilize all the time and knowledge during their training, we should consider it as a job experience. All the effort should be appreciated by count it as an experience. Hence, why Protege cannot be counted as an experience? Share with me your thoughts on this!

The Productivity Architect: I help companies earn discretionary effort from employees | Leadership & Sales Training | Culture Analysis | Keynote Speaker
Attention job seekers! Are you considering a career in plumbing, pipefitting, or steamfitting? According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be an average of 42,600 job openings for these positions each year over the next decade. However, there's a catch - there simply aren't enough new plumbers to replace those heading into retirement. This shortage is due in part to the perception that these trades involve dirty work and long hours. Experts in the industry say that fixing this problem will take time, as it's a generational issue. So, if you're looking for a career with job security and growth potential, consider becoming a plumber or pipefitter. Don't let the misconceptions hold you back from a fulfilling and in-demand career.

Honestly, I completely agree with your opinion. This program is a government initiative for the greater good, where both parties will benefit. However, both parties also have duties and responsibilities. As a protege, this is your opportunity to gain real-world career exposure in the industry with guidance from the employer. Despite the relatively short duration, if utilized effectively, this experience will serve as a foundation of strength during future interviews. It is the responsibility of the employer to design the training program for their proteges because, at the same time, proteges are potential personnel for them. Even if not, the protege will still have a positive or negative impact on the industry. For the protege, you must seize the opportunity to acquire knowledge and experience from the industry. It is also a learning process beyond the classroom. However, we need to understand that behind every positive experience story of a protege during the program, there is undoubtedly a flip side. Nobody is perfect.
